Kerry VonDross left a message on February 22, 2026:
My Friend – Jeff Farnham I have fond memories of Jeff. Jeff and I completed our senior year of college at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee; Jeff studied business while studied architecture. Jeff secured a spacious two-bedroom unit within the Beverly House Apartments—a sizeable residence converted into a quadplex at 2219 Beverly Road, conveniently located five blocks from the campus center. Looking back, I remember several things about Jeff and our time there. When he purchased twenty tickets—located in the front center and second center rows—for David Bowie's Isolar Tour performance at the Milwaukee MECCA Arena, so he could share them with friends. I also remember when we organized an elaborate costume party, that ultimately necessitated a police department visit to quiet the exuberance. On one coincidental occasion, we were both featured on the local evening television news for unrelated stories airing the very same night. Additionally, I remember when Jeff brought in a third roommate to our apartment: his dog Shadow, named after the song "Me and My Shadow," the chorus which Jeff frequently sang. There are two notable memories that I have of Jeff: one involving shared meals, and another centered around enjoyable workplace competition. I came from the University of Wisconsin and shared an apartment with two brothers from Sheboygan who had trouble telling the difference between a pot and a pan. When we rotated cooking duties, our meals developed into a routine: two nights of spaghetti, then I'd prepare something else; two more nights of spaghetti, and once again I’d make a different dish. Dining changed dramatically when I roomed with Jeff. We found a book at the UWM Book Store called “Dinners for Two for $1 a Day: Gourmet Dishes on a Budget.” The publication offered instructions for quick-prep, home-cooked gourmet meals. Essentially, it was a do-it-yourself version of HelloFresh—that came 44 years later. We agreed to follow the book for a while and conducted biweekly shopping trips for specified groceries. Upon returning home, we systematically divided the portions and appropriately stored the items by refrigerating, freezing, or shelving them as required. We alternated cooking responsibilities from Monday through Thursday; Friday through Sunday we were on our own. Utilizing pre-portioned ingredients, dinner preparation was minimal, with most meals requiring less than an hour to complete. It was delightful to share many evening meal with Jeff and discuss our lives, while we dined on dishes like Beef Sauté Marta served over egg noodles with scalloped cabbage; Baked Pork Steaks topped with piquant sauce alongside baked yams and buttered string beans; or Creamed Chipped Beef and eggs over toasted biscuits, paired with mixed vegetables and a pear salad topped with cream cheese. While attending UWM, we were employed part-time at The Hungry Lion, located in the First Wisconsin Center, which is currently known as the U.S. Bank Center. The Hungry Lion was a well-known nightclub and restaurant. This period coincided with the rising popularity of disco dancing. The venue boasted an illuminated dance floor, a live DJ spinning energetic disco tracks, several classic mirror balls, and an upscale restaurant offering gourmet cuisine. It was incredibly popular! Customers lined up three deep at the bar, and the entrance queue occasionally extended up to 100 feet, resulting in wait times that sometimes lasted for hours. I landed a job first as a waiter and then recommended Jeff to the manager. After his first interview, Jeff was immediately hired—not as a waiter, but as the head security door bouncer! Jeff was hired not for his size or strength, but rather for his leadership qualities and intellectual capabilities. There were others with physical prowess who would work alongside Jeff, but he was in charge. Jeff was approachable, quick-thinking, able to handle unexpected situations, keep order, and tactfully dealt with unruly guests. He was the final authority on approving IDs, enforcing their strict dress codes, and managing the entrance line. Upon returning home separately one Saturday evening, I boasted to Jeff that I had received my largest tip to date. A lively group of eight women were celebrating a bachelorette party with dancing and drinks and later requested a dinner table. To prevent them from disrupting other guests, I guided them to a section of the restaurant that had been closed, allowing them to party more freely. As a result of my engaging service, they paid me a generous $160 tip. Jeff chuckled and responded that he received an even greater tip that night. A few Milwaukee Bucks players arrived accompanied by their dates. Jeff spotted them and escorted them from the back of the lengthy line to a separate back door entrance down the hallway. As they walked to “Jeff’s VIP entrance,” the players thanked Jeff with very “warm” handshakes. Now, I'm sorry to admit that I can't remember the last meal I sat down to share with Jeff—I truly wish I could. The only memory I have is of us eating hamburgers and bratwurst at the turn while riding in golf carts during the 2024 Wilkie Golf Open, but I don't think that really counts. Still, I'm looking forward to the day when Jeff and I can sit together and enjoy an elaborate feast in God’s eternal realm. I believe Jesus was God's Son who became man; He is the prophesied Christ who died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and rose after three days, proving His power and eternal life. Consider this, God entered His creation and had the power to take our sins upon Himself. If we believe in Jesus and His cross work, we have this eternal truth alive within us. Through our faith in Christ, we are reconciled with the most holy God and promised glorified bodies with Him in His eternal realm after death or the through the rapture. 1 Thessalonians 416 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ will rise first, 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. Once again, Jeff one-upped me. I can imagine him jokingly saying when we meet the Lord in the air, “I rose up first.” When we believe in Christ, we immediately have the assured hope of our eternal, glorious existence; and we become spiritually alive beings just having a momentary human experience. I am blessed to have spent time with Jeff during our lives on earth.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Dear Barb and family I am so sad to learn of Jeff passing. He held a very special place in my heart. I learned a lot from him at IBF, but that was a small part of the impression he left on my life. Though he is in a better place than we can imagine, a huge hole is left in the lives he touched. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time. All my love, Pam Gribou
