Born in Burlington, WI, on April 28, 1964, and to Eternal Life on October 7, 2021, in Milwaukee, WI.
Jim was a loving husband to Susan Miller (Krey) and devoted father to Jacob Brushafer (Stephanie), Amanda Potratz (Matthew), Jenna, and Katrina, and grandpa to Zoey and Z.V.
Jim is survived by his wife, children, his parents, Richard and Therese Miller (Kachur), his brothers John and Daniel (Janine), and sisters Deborah and Mary Sekey (Brian). Cherished uncle of the Sekey, Krey, and Salapat families. Cousins and many good friends also survive him.
After graduating from St. Mary High School in 1982, Jim joined the Navy. He continued in the Naval Reserves achieving the rank Petty Officer Second Class until the closing of NHS Glenview, IL. While in the Naval Reserves, he went to Milwaukee School of Engineering and became a brother of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, where he had formed many friendships and fond memories. While attending and working at MSOE, Jim met the love of his life Sue, married in August 1993. He graduated with his BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1994.
He helped raise two stepchildren and two children of his own. He took pleasure in attending football games, ballet recitals, youth group events, scouting events, school activities, time with his family and friends.
Jim took part in many engineering jobs throughout his career (and even some non-engineering positions). He was not afraid to take on non-traditional jobs at First Student, and Woodcraft to help the family. Most recently, Jim held a contract job through Blankenheim Services at Harley-Davidson as an Ergonomic Specialist. Anyone who knows Jim will recognize that he loved his Harley, and working there was a perfect fit!
Jim had many passions in life that included woodworking, motorcycle riding, mentoring young men, and aiding veterans. Helping out at church events at St. Gregory the Great and going on mission trips several times to Tennessee with his children were things he could be counted on for. He was involved with many organizations such as Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts – Troop 11, American Legion – Post 18, Harley Owners Group (KMC and Rock River Chapters), and American Legion Riders. Joining the mission of THE VIPER RIDE – Visually Impaired Patriots Experiencing the Road was one of the motorcycle charity rides he greatly cherished.
Talking and helping people was not something Jim shied away from.
In his spare time between his numerous charities and events, Jim became a Licensed Insurance Agent for World Financial Group and became a coach, mentor, and friend to many agents.
When he was home, Jim loved to share his food with his beloved cat Jasper who came to his side anytime food was around. He also loved his other cats equally.
Jim had many fond memories in his life and appreciated all the friends he gained over the years. Jim was taken from us too soon, but the Lord must have needed help above. He has big shoes that will need to be filled. We will sorrowfully miss him.
