A little light that was so bright and jovial in the lives of all who knew him began to shine on October 7, 1944. Jack Alexander was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Mr. Samuel Alexander and Odee Outland Alexander. At the approximate age of four his beloved mother slipped away to be with the Lord. However, the Lord didn't see fit for him to be motherless and sent an angel to be his mother. Her name was Laura Anderson Alexander, whom he loved dearly. The bright light continued to shine throughout his life; it reflected in his brilliant, ever-ready smile, straightforward personality, helpful hands and quick wit. His light had a special effect on the lives of his family. In his early youth, he accepted Christ and joined Faith Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS under the pastorage of Reverend G. P. Gipson. Jack attended Mary C. Jones Elementary School in Jackson, MS. He moved to Milwaukee, WI and attended 12th Street Elementary School, and then North Division School, graduating in 1963. After graduating from high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968. As Petty Officer 2nd Class he made two tours around the world and received an honorable discharge at the close of his military career. Jack worked diligently at DRS Technology from June 12, 1973 until he retired on December 31, 2010. He really loved and enjoyed his job. Among other things that went along with the love of his job was running his football pool, selling coffee and participating in the birthday club. He had several co-workers (Diane, Joyce and Gail) that he admired and often referred to them as friends.Several things in life that brought him joy before his declining health were the times that he spent with his grandchildren Codi, Cacey and Charles Jr. They were his pride and joy. He looked forward to their Saturday outings to breakfast and going to Toys R Us or just shopping. He loved them dearly and had great admiration for their intellectual strengths and their wisdom beyond years. During his retirement ceremony at DRS he only wanted his grandchildren to represent and witness their Paw Paw's life's final achievement. Another thing that brought him great joy was his nephew Job Woodrow Alexander. He loved and cherished their one-on-one relationship. He stated that Job could carry on detailed conversations like a man. They often communicated about sports, things of life, news events and how to budget and save money. Jack also had great admiration for Job's intellectual strengths and avid sports abilities. Jack often stated, "That boy is going to be somebody!!!" Jack was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Charles A., Samuel Jr. and Sidney Alexander and step-son, Carlton Jackson. On Sunday, June 30, 2012, Jack exited from his earthly pilgrimage to his heavenly home. He will always be remembered as a fun-loving and caring person whose love for his family and friends, blessed each of us. His warm and gentle spirit will live on forever.
