Affectionately known as Matt, he was born on May 8th, 1933, to the union of Arthur Matthews and Clemmie Thompson in El Dorado, Arkansas. Matt attended Mt Holly AME School in Arkansas. At age 20, Hilton enlisted in the army and proudly served his country during the Korean War, honoring his commitment to service and duty. Matt leaves to cherish his fond memory, four children, Phyllis, Theresa, Nathan (Teresa) and
Lisa. He was most proud to be a grandpa. Matt had seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He also leaves behind his longtime partner of 31 years Catherine O’Connor, along with her son Patrick O’Connor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Matt will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Matt was preceded in death by his father Arthur, mother Clemmie, sisters Marie Fleming,
Rosie Springer, Mozell Matthews, and brothers Robert and Willard Matthews.
Dad,
Days have come and gone
Now you are finally home
Open arms were waiting for you
There’s nothing left for you to do. You are home.
Love,
your family
