Visitation at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 W. National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin, Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 4:00 PM – 6:45 PM. Funeral Service 7:00 PM. Private interment Highland Memorial Park.
Gordy graduated from Nathan Hale High School and accepted a sports scholarship to Carroll College where he played football and track. After receiving his teaching degree he taught and coached at Elkhorn High School. Several young men from the track team went on to achieve state honors. He later taught in West Allis and then became an administrator in New Berlin retiring as Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
Always interested in sports and good health, Gordy's Master's thesis from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee was the basis for the establishment of New Berlin's Park and Recreation Department. In retirement Gordy enjoyed traveling, volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and was an active participant in his church and the New Berlin Service Club.
In lieu of flowers memorials to Habitat for Humanity or Our Lord's United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
