Geralyn Bess Anderson, formerly Mrs. Bukowski, passed away peacefully at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon, WI, on December 31, 2025 at age 82. Born to Florence and Sidney, Geralyn grew up in Milwaukee and attended Washington High School.
An award-winning pianist in her youth, Geralyn also used her musical talent to enrich Sunday Mass at her church. As a lifelong learner, always striving for success, Geralyn earned her Real Estate license, but her most cherished academic milestone occurred at age 45, when she earned her B.S. in Education from UW-Milwaukee. This achievement was made especially meaningful as she graduated alongside her daughter, Kim, on Mother’s Day in 1989. As a dedicated teacher at Palmer, Emerson, and Parkview schools, she taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. She enjoyed math but was especially passionate about teaching literacy and went beyond the curriculum to make school not only fun, but also the best learning experience for each student. She cared deeply for the ongoing successes of her students, often following their accomplishments and cheering them on for years after they left her classroom.
Her children and grandchildren played a significant role in her life and Geralyn followed their accomplishments with great delight. From professional, academic, and artistic milestones to the arrival of new generations, she always offered her congratulations. She was a generous person who looked for every opportunity to give; in addition to birthdays and holidays, she often surprised her family with gifts whenever something caught her eye.
Geralyn was an extraordinary cook and baker who held herself to exacting standards; every holiday treat had to be as beautiful in presentation as it was delicious in taste. She expressed her love through food, famously ensuring that every guest left her home with a generous plate of leftover treats. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed crafting for her family and making hundreds of masks for nursing homes, friends and family. Her kindness extended further through her support of charities such as St. Jude and Compassion International.
Geralyn and her loving partner and companion, Dr. Lawrence Currie, were inseparable the last 20 years. They enjoyed watching Days of our Lives together, going to new release movies on Fridays, dining out, traveling and socializing with their many mutual friends.
Geralyn is survived by children David (Mary), Laurie (Phil), Jeff (Laurie), Kim (Jim); grandchildren Sarah (Tyler), Nicholas (Ciara), Noah, Avery, Colton; great-grandchildren Elliott, Jonah and Arlo; step grandchildren Jim (Trisha), Kurt, Angela (Dale), Jennifer, Joshua; step great-grandchildren James, Wesley, Brendan; sister Janet (Tom); partner Lawrence and his son, Jamál; ex-husband Tom (Ginnie); and many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence’s daughter, Tahirih, and ex-husband Larry.
