Age 89, of Edgewater, FL. Born to Eternal Life on February 25, 2011. He was born on September 17, 1921, in Westfield, Massachusetts. He was happily married to the late Helen Margaret Matthews (Nee Sullivan) on November 16, 1946, also of Westfield, MA. He moved to Milwaukee with his family in 1959, and lived there until 2004. From 2004 until his passing, he lived in Edgewater, FL. He worked for Rex Chain Belt (name later changed to Rexnord) for 17 years as the manager of Advertising & Marketing for the International Sales Division. In the 1970's, he launched a new career as a real estate salesman and broker. He also served his country honorably during World War II as a SGT E-5 in the United States Army Air Corps. Part of his service as one of "The Greatest Generation" included being stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eula (nee Bush) Matthews; sister, Betty Lou Sherwood (nee Matthews) and his beloved wife, the aforementioned Helen Margaret. He is survived by his children, Gregory (Carol) Matthews of Verona, WI, Donna (Mark) Zaltman of Chicago, IL and Kevin Matthews of Edgewater, FL. He is also survived by his younger brother, Robert Matthews of East Otis, Massachusetts. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives, friends and associates. He loved sports in general. His biggest love was baseball and he was also a bowler and golfer in his younger days. He was a true man and led his family by his example of moral values, responsibility, work ethic, integrity and uncompromising adherence to the basic principles of right and wrong. He will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered. Visitation at the Funeral Home, Friday, March 4, 4:00-7:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home, Saturday, March 5, 10:00 AM.
