They were married Feb. 15, 1944 in New Orleans, LA, while Dr. Landis was in service. Loving father of Richard, Charles (Gilda), and John (Lorna). Special grandfather of Jonathan (Linda), Peter (Julie), and Amy (James) English. Great-grandfather of Brandon, Zachary, Matthew, Savanna, Sophia, Ethan, Christopher, Eric, and Michael. Also survived by sister, Bette Zepezauer, and many special nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother Joseph, sister Runette Giuseffi, grandson David, and his parents. Visitation at the Funeral Home on Saturday, December 1, 1:00"3:00 PM. Funeral Service at 3:00 PM, followed by military honors. Burial will be Monday, December 3, 3:30 PM at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the Medical College of Wisconsin, Village at Manor Park Foundation, or the charity of the donor's choice.He attended University of Wisconsin Extension 1933-35, and Marquette 1935-36 receiving a BS degree. He attended Marquette University School of Medicine 1936-41 graduating with honors (Kappa-Alpha Society). He served his internship at Milwaukee County General Hospital 1940-41, and his residency in Internal Medicine there 1941-43. In 1943, he joined the US Air Force serving in various hospitals in the US and overseas in the Pacific Theater, Philippines, as a Captain. When discharged from service in 1946, he returned to the Milwaukee County General Hospital and completed his residency in Internal Medicine. In 1947, he joined the Medical staff at the Wood, VA Hospital, where he became Chief of the Tuberculosis Service, and later the Pulmonary Disease Service. He participated in and was coordinator of the VA Cooperative Studies of chemotherapy for treatment of TB, which helped define the most effective drug regimens for treating TB. These drug regimes combined with selective pulmonary resection led to control of TB and the closing of many TB Sanatoria worldwide. Dr. Landis was the author of a number of papers on pulmonary diseases, and was responsible for training of Residents and Fellows in pulmonary disease. He was an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and life member, and a member of The American Thoracic Society, and was past president of the Wisconsin Thoracic Society. On discharge from military service in 1946, he joined the US Army Reserve, 452 General Hospital, Milwaukee, and served for 29 years, retiring with the rank of Colonel. For 38 years, he served as a volunteer Medical Examiner at Badger Boys State. Following retirement in 1976, Dr. and Mrs. Landis made their winter home in Ft. Meyers, FL for 20 years, returning to Wisconsin in 1999. In 2002, they became residents of the Village at Manor Park in Greenfield. He was a member and elder of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee, and attended church in Shell Point Village, Ft. Meyers, at Elmbrook Church, and at Village at Manor Park. His hobbies include golfing, bowling, ornithology, fishing, collecting sea shells, genealogy, playing bridge, reading and walking.Special thanks to the caregivers and staff at VMP for their loving care.
