A long-time resident of New Berlin, Gene joined his dear wife of 54 years, Phyllis (nee Fitzsimmons), on Monday Sept. 22, 2014 at the age of 95. A long-time resident of New Berlin, Gene joined his dear wife of 54 years, Phyllis (nee Fitzsimmons), on Monday Sept. 22, 2014 at the age of 95. Born on April 27, 1919, he was the son of Paul and Margaret Miller. Predeceased by brothers Jerome and Wayne, sisters Evelyn and Florence. He is survived by, sister Vernetta (Will) Wandell. He will be remembered and missed by his sons Brian, Keith (Pam) and Scott, grandchildren Michelle (Tony) Drezdzon and Bradley and great granddaughter Marisa. Further survived by other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.
A WWII veteran, Gene was in the first group drafted in Cudahy in March 1941. He spent 3 ½ years in the European theater, as a sergeant and port electrician with the 11th Port HDQ company in Reykjavik Iceland from 1942-1943, training in England and taking part in the Normandy invasion in 1944, and serving in Northern France and Germany until the end of the war. He returned home in 1946 to begin our family and a career as a tool & die maker at International Harvester and later AO Smith.
Memorial Gathering at the Funeral Home 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Friday, October 3 from 5-7PM with a brief service at 7PM. Interment and military honors will be at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery at a future date.
