I am absolutely devastated and saddened by Eric’s passing.
Eric is idolized and adored at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, California. One of the reasons that Cal Poly’s Graphic Communication Department is a world-class program is because of the influence and wisdom that Eric provided when he served on our Advisory Board. In fact, this year I was going to nominate Eric for induction into Printing Industries of America Benjamin Franklin Honor Society.
On a more personal note, our families have a lot in common, and Eric was, and continues to be, a role model for my son who worked for Eric in Merced. He has said many times that when he looks at successful career paths, he looks to Eric Steinbach.
Eric’s passing is a loss to humanity. In my opinion Eric epitomized humanism for our industry and society.

Eric and I had rode our bicycles together in Wisconsin and he had invited me to join him in Colorado when I was there with a friend riding in the mountains. He invited my friend and I to ride and dinner at his house after, unfortunately this was during the 100 year flooding in the Denver area and Eric had to instead rescue his wife and get to a safe area. He always tried to find time to ride and told me about his trips with his family.
Eric and I were avid watchers of professional bike racing and fans of Peter Sagan and Eric had a habit of texting me with results of his racing before I was able to watch them on my DVR, he was the master of the spoiler!!! He had no texting ability of giving a "Spoiler Alert" warning! LOL!
Great man, great smile, just a wonderful human and example of how to live life. I always walked away after spending time with Eric just feeling better about life.
Ride on Eric! I will miss you! GodSpeed...
