February 23, 2002-September 5,2015. Emily was a delightful child wise beyond her years. She lived life to the fullest. If there was a happening she wanted to be a part of it. Emily was a member of Landmark Church of God and was Christian of the year when she was five. She had an amazing relationship with Jesus and loved her bible stories. Emily said being baptized helped her with the pain.
Emily attended MCFI-Pediatric Special Care where Chris Boyce and staff made sure that she was able to enjoy all the things in life that children without disabilities were enjoying (field trips, zoo, parties, picnics) while providing socialization and much needed medical care. While at MCFI she also attended SEDA where she sang, played the violin, was in little plays and concerts. Emme also enjoyed being a Girl Scout and a Cupcake. For four years Emily played on the Miracle League Ball Team in Kenosha, WI, at the Callahan YMCA. Emily believed she could do anything she wanted to, and gave everything she did 100% of herself. She never said, "I can't"; she never said, "why me." Emily's friend Apostoli said this about Emily: "Emily is one of the bravest souls I have ever met, never giving up, never complaining, never losing faith. Despite all of her struggles she was a normal little girl crazy about anything princesses, drawing, everything Disney, crafts, music and she had crushes on Justin Bieber and Harry Styles." Emily's laugh was so heartfelt that when she laughed you had no choice but to laugh also.
The last three years, Emily lived most of her life in and out of the 5th floor I.C.U at Children's Hospital of WI where the doctors, nurses, housekeepers and other staff became her family and friends. Birthday parties, Proms and Royal English Tea Parties became realities out of a storybook. In her mind Emme could dance even though her body could not. In June Emily and her best friend Maya got to go to Prom at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin where Emily's nurse, Vince pushed Emily, bed and all, into the middle of the dance floor where they danced the night away not leaving until the night ended. Emme talked of that night often. Thank you Vince for the magical dance — it was priceless.
If the World had more Emilys it would be a kinder, more gentle world. Emily is survived by her mother Tracie Gibson "Nana", Thelma Bury "G.G.", Best Friend in Life Stephen Honey Tomkiewicz, George Gibson "Papa", Jamie and Tarl Lotharius and their children Alana and Troy Boy, Debra (Steven) Riendeau, Michael (Norma) See, William (Andrea) Hallmark, Suzan (Richard) Marbut, Mary Jo (John) Hallmark, Great Aunts Hertha (Pappa Del) January and Joyce (Jerry) Schach, Tia Maria Laguna, Colleen Smith, Kellie and Bobby Bovenschen, Donna Zalas and a host of cousins and friends. Special thank you to our friends at the Cudahy K-Mart, The Spring Garden Restaurant, Home Care Medical, and Universal Pediatrics.
Our love and appreciation, not to mention hugs, to Dr. John Humphrey, Lori Good, Lynn and Beth and the rest of the Palliative Care Staff at Children's Hospital of WI for believing in us and making Emme's life as good as it could have been.
