Edward was born in Franklin Park, NJ to Edward, Sr. and Grace (nee Bossow) Schneider on March 31, 1924. He grew up with his family on his maternal grandparents' farm in Franklin Park, NJ. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Corps in the 8th Air Force, 335th Squadron, 95th Bomb Group, Stationed in Horham, England. He served as the radio operator and waist-gunner on the B-17 "Lucky Lady", achieving the rank of Tech Staff Sergeant. He met his future wife, Elaine LeMaire, at a USO dance at the Arkota Ballroom in Sioux Falls, SD. They carried on their courtship by mail, while Edward served overseas. They were married on September 8, 1946 in her home town of Luverne, MN. Moving to Madison, WI, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in Biochemistry before relocating to Milwaukee, and later Brown Deer, where he primarily worked for PL Biochemicals/Pharmacia and taught at MATC until his retirement in 1988.
A faithful member of Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Milwaukee, Ed served in a variety of capacities over the years, as a church deacon, on church boards, and in the Couples/Salt and Pepper Club. He loved to travel with his wife to visit family, and far away places, but Edward's greatest joy was always his family.
