He died peacefully on November 5th, 2020. He is at home with his Heavenly Father. Born in West Milwaukee, WI on April 18, 1934, to Joseph Schmidt and Margaret Calabrese-Schmidt. He grew up in West Milwaukee and attended St Florian’s Grade School and Don Bosco High School. He went back to school and completed his Associate degree in Accounting. Edward worked as a Corporate Accountant for Continental Can Company for 41 years. During Edward’s senior year at Don Bosco High School, he met Nancy L. Jeffrey, his wife of 65 years. They were married on September 10th, 1955. They raised four children; Edward Jr., David (Jeannine), Lisa Ertl, and Suzanne (Stuart) Reichl. Edward was the loving Grandfather to Beth, Katie, Pam, Sarah, Kyle, Ryan, and Dan. And Great-Grandfather to Addison, Mason, Grayson, Jack, Finnley, Quinnlyn, Oliver, and Maddox. He is preceded in death by his brother Richard J. Schmidt and two sisters, Edith Schmidt-Armstrong and Germaine Schmidt-Stencil. Edward and Nancy settled in the Milwaukee Area and retired to a peaceful getaway in Sister Bay-Door County, WI. They graciously shared their home with family and friends. Edward was active in his faith, church, and community (similar to Coach Vince Lombardi’s “Three Most Important Values are Family, Religion and the Green Bay Packers”). Edward was involved in various civic organizations including Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America, Lead troop #480, Catholic Youth Organizer in Milwaukee and Door County, WI, Lions Club of Door County, WI and Sister Bay Historical Society, and many more.
Visitation will be held at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery.
