In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Jay, daughter Jo (Pat) Young and five grandchildren, Isaac, Sydney, Samantha, Victoria and Carter. He is further survived by his sister Charlotte (James) Gillespie. He was preceded in death by his son Richard, his sister Dejon and his parents.
Roland was born on May 18, 1927, in Wausau, Wisconsin and was raised in Wittenberg. Immediately following his high school graduation in 1945, Roland enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to school and ultimately graduated from the Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1954. He met Beth while an undergraduate at Stevens Point, and they were united in marriage on August 26, 1950 in Wild Rose, Wisconsin.
Roland practiced dentistry in Wausau for 36 years before retiring to be a “gentleman farmer” in 1990. During his retirement years, Roland and Beth devoted time to serving others, including participating in mission trips to assist the underprivileged in Jamaica and helping artisans and farmers across the globe achieve a level of sustainability through SERRV International. After over 50 years, Roland and Beth left Wausau in 2008 to be closer to family in Milwaukee. While in Milwaukee, Roland was able to be active in the lives of his grandchildren. Roland was a quiet and humble man and a person of integrity. He was a devoted husband and a strong role model for his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, funeral services will not be held at this time. A celebration of Roland’s life will be held next spring. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Krause Funeral Home, 7001 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
