Dorothy “Jean” Neely-Harris was born on November 21, 1935 in Memphis, Tennessee. Her mother, Elree Harris, died shortly after Jean was born. She was raised by her grandparents Isaac and Jessie Harris. Jean was baptized in grandmother Jessie’s church as a teenager. She attended and graduated from Covert High School in Michigan. As an orphan, she grew up in the country with her aunts and cousins.
In September of 1955, she met the love of her life and future husband, James Gillon. After a whirlwind romance, the two married on October 6, 1956. From this union, five children were born: David (deceased)/Sheila, Michelle (Wiley), Carey/Tracey, Jean Renee Gillon-Shea, and Tracey A. Mitchell/Barry. She was the grandmother of four: Shannon Wiley, Brandon Wiley, Brianna (Bobby) Labinski and Ajani Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Wiley Jr. and Robin Labinski.
Jean was a quiet, shy person. She spent a lot of her free time reading novels, bible verses and scriptures, and doing word search puzzles. She was a member of Christ The King Church, and loved nature and watching nature shows. A working mother of five, she planned family picnics and road trips near and far. She loved her family and the family time above all.
Jean gently departed this life on March 20, 2023. She was such a precious gift from God, and we are so very grateful to have experienced her beauty, her grace and her love. She loved her family so much and she held on tight until the strength was gone and she could no longer fight, so she gave her hand to the Lord and slowly drifted away.
Gathering at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 3:00 PM – 4:45 PM. Memorial Service at 5:00 PM.
