She is survived by Dr. Vernon, her beloved husband of 62 years; dear children, Paul (Chris), Mary M.D., Mark (Deb) and John; grandchildren Daniel, David, Melissa (Kurt) Kappeler, Ann, Benjamin, Heidi, Erik, Brett, Nora and Alexander and great-grandchild, Greta Kappeler. Also survived by her sister, Dorothy Nerothin, of Minneapolis and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Ernest and Olga Smith and her brother Donald Smith. Born in Aurora, IL, she graduated from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL. As an elementary teacher, she taught in Aurora, Minneapolis, Ft. Lewis, Washington and Milwaukee. She loved music and artistry and was an avid painter, especially rosemaling. Doris donated numerous paintings for fund raising events. Doris was a former active member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church for over 45 years. A grateful thank you to the kind and devoted personnel in the Special Care Center and Luther Manor Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Luther Manor Foundation or Southeastern Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association appreciated.
