Doris “Gail” Tatro

Tatro, Doris “Gail” (nee Satermo and formerly Baughman) – Passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at age 94 after a brave cancer battle.

Cherished mother of Cheryl Janzen, Susan Kleemann, Dona (Phil) Beaulieu, Linda Tatro, John (Ellyn) Tatro, and Lisa Tatro as well as her child with fur (Livvie).  Proud Grandma to Norman (Becky) Baughman, Rudy (Janet) Janzen, Ronnie (Tiffany) Janzen, Nikki Janzen, Jack (Katie) Wickey, Gary (Mellissa) Wickey, Amanda (Brad) Welsch, DJ, Amy, and Tracey Villa, Phillip (Dawn) Beaulieu and Lindsay Beaulieu, Dion Sobieski and Lacey and Chloe Tatro, and Grant Tatro.  Great grandmother to Nathan and Matthew Baughman, Jeremy, Mason, Jorja, Daltyn and Colton Janzen, Alayna De La Rosa and Lily Janzen, Niles Janzen, Gabriel, Noah, Phoebe, Jack and Riley Wickey, Kaylah, Colyn, Myles, and Leah Wickey and Max Abbott Braunschweig,  Kaelie Wickey, Trae, Cade and, Wesley Welsch, Alex Hanson Villa and Jaydan Villa, Angel  and  Nisa Villa, Anthony, Isaiah, and Brianna Wilborn, Amaris and Jo’Que Williams, and Oliver and Rowen Beaulieu.  Great-great grandmother to Magnus and Finn Wickey, Rosie Farber, Julia Janzen and Audrey Wilborn. Loving sister to Russell Satermo, Marcia Schmidt, and Wayne (Sharon) Satermo, and sister-in-law to Irene Phillips.  Also loved by sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including our dear family friend, Jim Stawicki who helped us immensely while caring for mom in her final years.

Preceded in death by her parents Russell and Helen Satermo, the love of her life and first husband Norman Baughman, her loving daughters Debra Wickey and Wendy Villa, her siblings Bud Phillips, Janis (Jack) Link, Marlene (Pete) Rank, Sandy (Rick) Behm, and Webb Satermo, her boyfriend Jerry Thiemke, and her dearest friends, Gwen Tatro and Eunice Bachmeier.

Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin during the Great Depression era, Gail was one of nine children.  Her family moved to Milwaukee in the summer of 1942 when she was 11 years old.  She and some of her siblings worked in the family grocery stores.  Mom met her first husband and love of her life, Norman Baughman, through her sister Janis.  While Norman was stationed in Hawaii, they formed a connection through letter writing that evolved into marriage.  She had five children with him before his untimely death due to a boating accident when her children were all under five years old.  She had to find work in a factory to support her children and was proud to buy her own home.  Her father had to sign for the loan at the time, because the bank would not lend to a woman.  She later remarried and had three more children.  Gail’s greatest legacy was the love of her family.  She loved feeding family and friends her famous home-cooked meals, baked goods (especially cookies and candies), and home-made rhubarb jam (otherwise known as liquid gold).  Her passions included gardening, reading, puzzling, going to the casino with her friends, playing BINGO, the Brewers, the Packers, Farkle (dice game), and spending time with her family.

A heartfelt thank you to the Mayo Clinic and Froedtert Cancer Center teams for their support throughout her cancer treatment, the hospice team at St. Camillus for their loving care and guidance while we navigated caring for mom in her home, and her compassionate caregivers Pam Parrott and Rachel Richter—all of whom not only cared for our mother but our family as well.

Visitation at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:15 PM with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3:30 pm.  Reception to follow service.  Burial on Monday, September 29, 2025 at noon at Pine Lawn Cemetery, her final resting place where she will be reunited with her first husband, Norman Baughman.
