Don graduated from Wauwatosa East High School and graduated from Marquette University in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, General Business Accounting and Finance.
Don grew up in the nursery business. Don’s father, Earl Minor, was the manager of a small retail sales yard on Appleton Avenue and Silver Spring Drive where he learned the trade. Don founded Minor’s Garden Center, Inc. in 1949 with it’s first location on 58th and Appleton Avenue in Milwaukee. As the business grew, he eventually opened the existing location on 76th and Calumet in Milwaukee. All of Don’s children, and extended family and friends, have worked at Minor’s. It remains a family business to this day which Don is extremely proud of. Up until a few weeks ago, he wanted to hear all about the daily operations and offer his expertise on the farm production. Once the next generation stepped up, Don started his passion to travel. He was a worldly traveler and thoroughly enjoyed sharing his experiences with family and friends.
Spending time at his condo in Palm Springs, California was definitely a highlight. Never missed his daily pool exercises, poolside card games and daily cocktail hour with the great friends he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with in the sun!
Don will be greatly missed by his precious, tried and true friends, Joan, and the late Bob Auclair and Pat, and the late John Collier and many wonderful friends and neighbors that Don kept in contact with up until his final days.
The Minor Family would like to extend the deepest, heartfelt THANK YOU to Adam Tomes and Carolyn Kite, the care givers that helped Don’s last year be the best it could be.
