I'm very late but condolences to the family on Don Neau's passing. He was my high school band teacher and needed a basson player, so... But more importantly, when there were some rough things going on at the time, he always lent an ear and support and good advice. I just logged onto the West Milwaukee alumni Facebook page from here in Australia where I live, and the first thing I saw was such a familiar face. I don't remember many teachers, but I'll never forget him.

Mr. Neau was my Sidney Poitier, To Sir With Love. I could fill a book with all the fond memories I have of him & the life lessons he taught me. He encouraged me to be better in everything from pushing us to have the straightest flute line in the Western Days parade to not putting up with a cheating boyfriend. He gave me the courage to smile without feeling self-conscious. From concerts to parades to half-time formations at Friday night football games, he was an excellent music teacher. From mooching cigarettes to book recommendations to life advice, he was a wonderful friend. My sincerest condolences to Don's kids; I always envied you. Your dad was the best!

My heart breaks that I never got to tell him how much he helped me, both with music and with life. He was truly a teacher that cared about his students and has left his mark in this world. I can see him leading a band of angels with When the Saints Come Marchin' In! My sincere condolences to all of his family. May these memories help ease the pain of your loss.

Mr. Neau was truly a beloved teacher and holds a dear place in my heart. He had a gift at being a music teach for sure, but beyond that, I feel he taught me many life lessons. He helped me to progress towards becoming a mature adult and to leave behind some of the pettiness that is inherent in high school. I was in marching band, concert band and jazz band 1980 to 1983. Rest in peace Mr. Neau.

Taught me how to play the French horn while in elementary school at Roosevelt in WA. Wanted me in the band in HS at WM. But sports took up my time. RIP
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I was a trumpet player at West Milwaukee High School from 1974 to1977. Your father was a great teacher and a true friend. He taught me more than just music. I will miss him but he will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

It was deep sadness when I heard the news of Mr. Neau's passing. If you were one of his students you will always have a special place in your heart for Don. He always cared and was always available to talk with his students and those who were not his students and pass on great advice. He loved music and made the 4 years of West Milwaukee HS Band the best!!! No one could forget his passion regarding Marching Band and all the formations he came up with. He was a teacher of music but a teacher of life lessons as well. When I think back to WeMiHi, Don is always one of those teachers who instantly pop into your thoughts. My deepest condolences to his family and may Don join the band that plays on forever. RIP you will be missed

OMG...I have always had this man in my thoughts...he was a huge part of my life since 5th grade! He was my band teacher at Pershing and again at WeMiHi.....he wasn't only a great teacher, but an awesome human being! He always had time for his students and always had the right advice. He meant the world to me and made high school worth getting up for each day!! I'm so sad that I never got to see him again and tell him how much he meant to me. RIP!! Thoughts and prayers with and for the family. Godspeed Mr. Music!

I was deeply saddened to hear of Don's passing. He was a lifelong friend with a good heart. My best memory of Don is the day he was best man at my wedding in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1967. Don had the wonderful ability to never let you take yourself too seriously and yet do it in a way that expressed a genuine concern for your well being. I will miss him but still have the memories of the many good times we shared in Kenosha.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Mr. Neau was one of the great 3 for Lancer Band and had a pretty big impact on my life. I appreciate the fact that he became one of the directors and really formed a great experience for many of us during that time. His dedication and care for many of the members of the band was wonderful. His sense of humor, his caring advice, and his way of pushing you to be better are things I have always remembered about my time in the band. There are so few like him and that group of men.

Please accept my sincere condolences to the passing of Don Neau to family & friends. Mr Neau was my homeroom, band & helped keep me safe in high school. He really was a very caring & funny person. Loved his coke in a can & looked after many students while trying to show/teach us the beauty through learning & playing music.

I am devastated to hear this heartbreaking news of Don’s passing. Don, to me, was a life lesson teacher, an excellent music teacher, an inspiration & a great friend. There is so much to thank him for as the teaching manifest till this very day. I’m blessed to be a full time musician with the skill sets he helped lay the foundation for in my career. I’m glad I had the opportunity to tell him thank you in person & on the phone. I wish I could tell him again, “thank you Don”. I’ll also miss his humor & his laugh. “Snargelfarquar” my friend Peace, Love & Music Craig Omick

Very sad to hear of this today. I was always hoping to run into him. I was a student of Don’s at West Milwaukee High School, a 1984 graduate. He was one of my favorite teachers. He commented some things to my mom at a parent teacher conference that I would think about often that made a huge difference in my life to this day. He saw more and believed in some people, more than they believed in themselves. Loved that guy!

My heart is broken.....He was not only a great music teacher, he was my friend. He taught me much more than music and I took those words of wisdom on throughout my life. His love for you kids was endless. He always called me WOP and I will truly miss him. Condolences.......
