Denise was raised in Jackson, Michigan, daughter of Edwin and Jennifer Gordon. She graduated from Northwestern University with degrees in Journalism (1965) and Education (1968), and obtained her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (1986).
Denise spent her 40-year career as an educator and instructional materials editor and publisher, holding professorships and lecturing at Carroll College, Viterbo University, and National Louis University. Since 1995, Denise was director of Instructional Materials Depot, a private provider of teacher training and curriculum development tools.
Denise was active in the community, having served on the Town of Lisbon planning commission (1978-1983), as president of Friends of Wisconsin Libraries (1981-1985), and co-founder of the Lisbon-Inc. political action committee (2010-2013). She was a patron of the arts, and involved in numerous other activities.
Denise was a horse enthusiast, enjoyed golf, and was a talented artist, often combining a taste for travel with her love of photography and painting. She was strong in her faith throughout her life, to the end.
Denise is survived by Dennis, her husband of 49 years, three brothers, her twin sister, her sons David (Christi), Dan (Angie), and Darin (Lisa), and eight grandchildren: Nick, Emma, Hannah, Athena, Alexandria, Lucas, Raegan, and Fiona.
