David Robert “Dave” Schroeder, 76, passed away on February 14, 2022 at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin surrounded by family and friends. Dave was born October 29, 1945 to Robert J. Schroeder (USA) and Joyce E. Peters (UK) in London, England at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital.
Shortly after his birth, he traveled with his mother Joyce on the Queen Mary across the Atlantic to the United States, where they re-joined his father Robert, settling in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Dave attended Leland Elementary and Pilgrim Park Junior High in Elm Grove and graduated from Brookfield Central High. He completed three years of civil engineering at the UW Platteville, where he met his future wife, Patricia Butt Schroeder.
Dave served in the U.S. Army for four years with the Nike Hercules Missile Command in Texas, rank of Sergeant, after which he was honorably discharged.
Dave was co-owner of Butt’s Florist in Dubuque and managed its “Rosey’s Poseys” location downtown. He then worked as a sales representative for a wholesale supply company in Dubuque and Milwaukee. During his retirement, Dave enjoyed traveling, flying RC airplanes and restoring WW2 target drones.
Dave was a supportive, caring father with a handyman knack for tinkering, fixing and building. Summer days were often spent showing his children the ropes on everything from riding bicycles and mastering baseball to mowing the lawn, pitching tents, building forts and driving a car.
He had a passion for metal detecting, fishing, boating, vintage cars and collecting beer steins. He was also an accomplished swing dancer and could regularly be found on the green for a round of golf with friends and colleagues.
Dave also loved boating and fishing and had a fondness for spending summer holidays at Pleasant Lake in Waushara County, WI where he had also vacationed during his youth.
Dave is survived by his partner and good friend, Kerry Orcholl, his former wife Patricia, his sister Megan, his children Ryan (Renza), Erich and Katy, grandsons Niccolo and Matteo, granddaughter Morgan, great-granddaughter Oaklynn Mae, his niece Becky (Chad), nephew Brian, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his son, Joseph.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation to be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Sunday, February 20th from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM with service to follow.
