Passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at age 72. Beloved husband of Christine (nee Manthe) for 52 years. Loving father of Daryle (Stephanie) Schultz and Tom Schultz. Proud grandpa of Jacob and Joshua. Dear brother of Larry (Linda) Schultz, Laura (Paul) Lewis. Also loved by many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Floryann (nee Weissenborn) Schultz.
Dan was born in Milwaukee and grew up in Brown Deer with his siblings Larry and Laura. During his teenage years the family moved to Brookfield, where he met his future bride, Chris at the Food Fair grocery store where they both worked.
One of his greatest joys was spending time in the North Woods, whether it was fishing, hunting, or family vacations. He loved to watch Packer games with his cat Bob on his lap. Most of all he enjoyed attending every event his children and grandchildren were involved in. He spent countless hours hiking at Holy Hill, attending football games, wrestling matches, and shuttling the boys to events. You could always spot him in the crowd or on the side of the mat with his hat full of collected German pins. His hat always was a conversation starter.
Dan had a big heart and loved his family deeply. He was always there to help at a moment’s notice and took great care of his mother for many years until her passing.
One thing that Dan impressed upon his children and grandchildren was his work ethic. He would tell them, “Do something. It doesn’t matter what you do, just do something with all of your heart.” He also passed on his great sense of humor. He always denied being a part of the great “Easter basket” photo of his grandson as a baby in an Easter basket filled with plastic eggs.
Outside of family he enjoyed meeting up socially with high school friends from Catholic Memorial and former co-workers from WA Krueger.
Dan will be missed by all that knew him. He always had a kind and encouraging word or a great story about his hat with many German pins or their cat. He was a Father, brother, Father-in-law, Grandfather, fisherman, hunter, encourager, pet babysitter to many “beasties” as he would call them, and a caring friend. But we all know he was so much more than all of these words can describe.
The family would like to thank the ProHealthcare workers who cared for him, the Cancer Center, and especially Angel’s Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc. Memorial Gathering at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Sunday, July 25, 2021, from 3:00 PM – 4:45 PM. Celebration of Life at 5:00 PM.
