Born to truly love his family, a gift to this world who lived for his family, left this earth too soon, on Friday, January 28, 2011, due to a brutal disease; cancer. Survived by soul mate, partner, and best friend of 25 years, wife Laurie Martin. Adoring, dedicated, and proud father of two beautiful girls, Nicole Surges and his precious "baby" girl, Skyler Martin. Helpful and loyal son-in-law, John Surges. Caring parents, Char Barwig (Bob) and Larry Martin (Rose). Special caretaker and committed father-in-law, Frank East. Loving Mother-in-law and "Bud", Judy East. Thoughtful friend and brother in-law, Ronnie Ward. Always concerned, Aunt Sharon and Uncle Charlie Burks. Generous friends, cousins and loved ones. Loyal and devoted, Dr. Hawkins. Preceded in death by father-in-law, Jim, sister-in-law, Tami and grandmas, Mabel and Kathy. Dan was a dynamic and skilled social worker, before owning and operating Martin's Landscape Management for 19 years. Dan loved nature, landscaping and took great pride in his work. He cared about his customers. Dan was an incredible, wonderful and "one of a kind" husband. Being a father was a main joy, he took that role to heart in every aspect of his life. Dan was thoughtful, extremely generous, smart, and shared a unique sense of humor. He shared his wisdom, humility, gratitude, and love with his family. He enjoyed sunshine, cookouts, projects, science and history. He was passionate about music, and enjoyed his "state of the art" sound system. He played the drums and piano. Dan was an exceptional man, he worked hard, loved deep and gave everything he had in his heart, to all that were in his heart. He will be missed so intensely and completely, every second for the remainder of our lives. His special traditions, thoughtful ways, creative expressions, actions, and beautiful heart, will stay with us always!
