Age 81 years, of Clark Lake, Sturgeon Bay, died suddenly at home on Thursday, August 11, 2011. He was born on April 12, 1930, in Madison, WI, the son of the late Harold and Vyonne (State) Wylie. Fred graduated from West Milwaukee High School in 1948. He studied industrial management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and graduated from there in 1963. He also studied at the War College in Alabama. Fred married Nancy Moran in Greendale, WI, on July 21, 1951. He and Nancy had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Door County. Fred served his country in the Air Force for 39 years. He entered with the rank of "private," and upon completion of his service, he had earned the rank of "Colonel." Fred was a member of the 128th Wisconsin Air National Guard refueling group and was inducted into the Air National Guard Hall of Fame in 2001. Fred also served on the board of the Clark Lake Association (in Door County) and Whitnall High School Booster Club (in Hales Corners). Upon completion of his military service in 1990, he became a member of the Air Guard Retirees Organization. Fred will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Nancy, of Door County; two children, Scott and Debra (James) Okell of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren, Katie Wylie of Portland, OR, and Ryan Okell, Jennifer Okell and Amy Okell, all of Omaha, NE; 1 sister-in-law, Audrey (Frank) Meyer of Three Lakes, WI; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff; one sister, Patricia; and one sister-in-law, Patricia (Earl) Goetsch. Visitation at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, from 11:00 AM to 1:45 PM. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Fred's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 9202 West Dodge Road, Ste. 304, Omaha, Nebraska 68114.
