Charles F. Stys, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, after a brief hospitalization with his wife and four daughters by his side. Loving husband of Ann Marie (Zamon) for 57 years. Proud father of Lisa (LJ), Karen (Ian), Kathryn (Stephen), and Lynn (Ray). Cherished grandfather to Sy, Spencer, William, Matthew, Carly, David, Ava, Elliot, Olivia and step-granddaughters Gemma and Zoë. Beloved son to late Stanley and Sofia Stys (Wahula). Dear brother to Dr. Stanley Stys (Sharon) and Denise (Mitch). Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Friend to many.
Charles was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Harper Woods, Michigan, where he attended Notre Dame High School and the University of Detroit. After receiving his degree from the College of Commerce and Finance, he returned to Notre Dame High School as their dedicated Business Manager, a role that he held for 36 years. In retirement, he continued supporting Catholic education and served on the Regina High School Board of Directors.
In 2012, Charles and Ann moved from Michigan to Wisconsin to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Charles was all about family. Together with his wife, he hosted many joyous family meals with beautifully set tables and lots of laughter with his quick sense of humor. He wrote thoughtful notes and never missed sending a card for special occasions. He was a master organizer with amazing attention to detail. He shared his talents with his daughters and grandchildren and was often proud that the “organizing gene” had been passed down.
Football, cars and home improvement were some of his favorite interests. Charles was a loyal University of Michigan and Detroit Lions football fan, loved a well-kept, polished car and had an eye for home design.Impressively, Charles made a commitment to his health to walk 10,000 steps a day and accomplished this for over a decade. It was true testament to his strong will, determination and resolve.
“Charles, we hold you in our hearts forever and your light shines
through the legacy of your family. We love you always!”
Charles was a man of faith, and a celebration of his life will take place at St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic Church, W280N2101 Prospect Avenue, Pewaukee, Wisconsin, on Thursday, February 23, 2023. Visitation is at 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM (CST). Eulogy at 10:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
