Charlene and I were friends from a zillion years ago..in high school and college. I was sitting here at my computer and looked at the date and I thought, oh wow, it is Charlene’s birthday. Let me google to see if I can find her. I’ve tried finding her many times and couldn’t. What a shock to find her in the obituaries. Charlene was someone who was naughty & got me in trouble. :) :) :) I’m giggling now as I think about some of her ‘naughties’. For instance, we sat next to each other in typing class in high school. We were having a ‘speed test’. Without my knowing it, right before the test she pushed some little button on my typewriter so that the ink would not go on the paper. I was so excited, I knew I’d done well on the test. I looked, and there was a blank sheet. And there was Charlene giggling up a storm. There are other stories. I even have pictures. :) :) :) I see I can add pictures, I might dig around & see if anything might work. Charlene’s family, I’m so sorry for your loss.

Dear Machi Family, I am so saddened by Chars passing. Char was my Kindergarten teacher at Valley View, class of 1975. I was only 4 when entering Kindergarten and I struggled transitioning to school each morning for the first few weeks. Char was so patient and kind. She was the perfect teacher for me, I was blessed, truly! I also had the great privilege of then working with Char at Shady Lane when I was a speech-language pathologist there. She was as impressive a teacher as I remembered. Kind and caring to every student and family. An excellent coworker who was so supportive of all the staff. I have thought about Char over the years after her retirement and hoped she was enjoying a well deserved retirement enjoying time with the family she so often beamed when talking about. I feel humbled and honored to have had "Mrs. Machi" in my life. My deepest sympathy to you all, I know how very special she was. Sincerely Kathy Becker

I lived next door to Char and Tom for the last 25 years. Char was the sweetest woman I’ve ever met. She would write the sweetest letters to me. You will be missed dearly!

Our deepest condolences to the Machi family. Charlene welcomed us to the neighborhood with open arms when we moved into our home over four years ago. As a neighbor living directly across from the Machi’s, I often found myself crossing the street to chat with Charlene as she walked across her lawn to check the mail. At times we stood in the driveway in the blistering cold, chatting about life and especially updates about my two daughters. Charlene reminisced about her days as a kindergarten teacher and would often send bags of classroom materials that she had kept over the years - poems about the delight of little children, worksheets galore, and sweet little stickers for our youngest to enjoy. She truly is a sweet soul who contributed to making our transition here feel more like home - Charlene will always have a special place in my heart.

Dear Machi Family, I had the pleasure to work with Char in my first years of teaching at Shady Lane. She was always quick to tell a joke or a smile. She will be missed. My condolences! Dan Laserstein

Tom and Mike, I am so sorry for your loss. Although Char and I haven’t been in touch for several years, she was not someone you’d forget. I was hired into her classroom in 1998 as a part-time teacher aide. Never before, nor since, have I ever met someone with her depth of kindness, caring and compassion. The world has truly lost an angel. May God give you comfort in the days ahead.
