Age 94, passed away on March 18, 2011, well loved by family and friends, and a stubborn Finlander to the very end. Born in Ironwood, Michigan on January 21, 1917, he learned, as one of Carl and Hilma Asunto's 11 children, to persevere through depression era farm life in the Upper Peninsula with hard work and humor. Despite having a WWII occupational deferment, Bruno enlisted in the Navy because he believed it to be the right thing to do. He served his country honorably as a Mechanist's Mate in the South Pacific. Later, in Milwaukee, he became a tool and die specialist for American Motors for 31 years, and as a UAW Local 75 member, took pride in a job done well and in helping with new trainees. He gave his children, Stephen (Lin), Sonja, Van (Lori) and Ann (Art Gomez), his sense of humor, taught them cribbage, how to catch is hand-numbing pitches, and showed them how to be a good friend and neighbor, and to care about family, which now includes five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Elise LaClaw and brother, Leo Asunto. Most of all, Bruno will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Margerite "Earlene" (Derousseau), "Oh, how they danced since the night they were wed." A gathering will be held at the Funeral Home Thursday, March 24, 5:00-8:00PM. Memorial Service at 6:30PM.
