Brenda Joyce Crawford was born on November 29th, 1954, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the union of the late Mildred Crawford and Richard Crawford Sr.
Brenda moved to Milwaukee, WI, with her family at age five. Brenda received her formal education in the Milwaukee Public School system and continued her education at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where she obtained her GED. Brenda sought a successful patient care career by receiving her nursing assistant certification at Christopher East Nursing Home. During her 25-plus years of service at St. John’s on the Lake, she received many accolades, recognition, and thank-yous from her peers and patients. In Brenda’s spare time, she also went into the privacy of the patient’s home as a home health care aid.
Not only did she have a passion for helping others, Brenda also had a heart for her community and was a strong community activist for equal rights and justice. Brenda showed her dedication to her community by attending rallies, forums, and community block parties to promote peace and equality.
Brenda loved to travel, spend time with family on holidays, and watch football. She also loved to talk with her nieces and nephews about current events. A few of Brenda’s hobbies were journaling and scrapbooking. Brenda contributed to many charitable organizations, such as the Salvation Army, Milwaukee PBS, Amnesty International, Democratic National Committee, Feeding Hunger Task Force, and Habitat for Humanity. She was a member of Unity and faithfully read her Daily Word.
