Entered into Eternal Life on August 10, 2016 at age 89. Beloved husband of Kathryn (nee Koenen). Loving father of Patti Potos and Andrea (Michael Slater) Potos. Proud Grandpa Andy of Mathew Steil, Katie (Fiance Alex Ryan) Steil and Lexi Slater. Brother and Best Friend of Chris (Lesa) Potos. Beloved nephew of Georgia Schneider and Sofia Zacharias. Further survived and will be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Helen Potos Benjamin, and his brother Dr. William B. Potos.
Andy grew up on the lower east side and attended Lincoln High School. He attended Marquette earning a BA and MA in history. He started his career as an English and history teacher. In 1961 he signed on with WITI-TV6 as an account executive. This led to stints with the company’s corporate sales divisions in Chicago and New York. He became General Manager of WITI in 1981 and held that post until he retired in 1996. Andy’s focus was news excellence and community service. During his tenure, WITI was repeatedly named “Station of the Year” for community service by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. Local charities and non-profits knew they could turn to Andy and WITI for support. The list of those that benefited from their involvement included; The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), Junior Achievement, American Heart Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation, ALS and the Milwaukee Boys and Girls Club. He served on the board of directors of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Milwaukee World Festivals Inc. He was named “Man of the Year” by the Italian Community Center.
Visitation will be at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, on Monday, August 15, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Trisagion at 7:00 pm. Additional visitation will be at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 9400 West Congress Street, Wauwatosa, on Tuesday, August 16, from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Funeral Service at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the church, The Muscular Dystrophy Association or ALS.
