(Nee Burt) Age 100, died peacefully January 1, 2019 at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac, WI, encircled by the love of her family. Infectious laughter. Salutatorian of her graduating class, Milwaukee Girls Trade and Technical School. Seamstress at Florence Danforth, exclusive custom dress shop on Milwaukee’s East Side. Lover of reading. Day not started right without the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and a good cup of coffee. Non-stop worrier about her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, & extended family. Snapper of photos. Professional-quality maker of hand-smocked daughters’ dresses, tailored suits, wedding dresses, more curtains than can be counted. Hand-stitched quilter; crocheter; knitter. Maker of world’s best potato salad. Baker of stollen, trays of tiny Christmas cookies, all manner of cookies. Ever-constant supporter and encourager. Persistent advocate of education.
Missed her beloved husband Edward every day since his death on 5/24/04. Best friend for 80 years of Irene Hinke. Beautiful Alyce. Wife, mother, Oma, sister, Aunt, BFF. Heart of her family forever.
She was born May 8, 2018 in Oshkosh to John and Anna McGuire Goheen Burt, but lived most of her long and independent life in Milwaukee, remaining in her own home near Mount Mary College to age 95. She then moved to an independent living apartment at St. Clare Terrace, Fond du Lac, where she made many new friends whom she greatly enjoyed, to be closer to family. She married Edward P. Dietzmann in Milwaukee on June 22, 1940. He preceded her in death May 24, 2004, as did her parents; her siblings Mary Charlotte Montag; Patrick Goheen; Gladys Williams; Kaye Breemeersch; Delores St. George; and Elmer “Al” Garrity; her much loved mother-in-law, Christina Brunner and other relatives and friends. Left to mourn her loss are daughters Alyson (Bill) Zierdt, Fond du Lac, WI; Holly (John) Eglsaer, New Glarus, WI; grandchildren Ruth Alyce (Brooklyn, NY) and Sam (Lisa Wiedemann) Dietzmann, Chicago, IL; dearest friend Irene Hinke (Minneapolis, MN); nieces, nephews, Hinke family, and her friends from St. Clare Terrace.
Visitation for Alyce will take place Saturday, January 5, 2019, 1:00 PM, with funeral mass to follow at 2:00 PM at St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
