Althea Lee Carroll was born in Wilson, Arkansas on April 2, 1943, to Mary Lee Garner & AlfredGarner Sr. She relocated with her family to Milwaukee, WI at the age of three years old. She received her formal education at 4th Street School, Lee Street School, and Lincoln High School (1961) all in Milwaukee WI. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Greater Galilee Baptist Church. She joined Emuas Lutheran Church in 1967 and became an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in 2014. Althea Lee Garner was united in holy matrimony to Charles E. Carroll on January 18, 1963, in Milwaukee WI. To this union they were blessed with five children, Sonja Carroll, Dana McClain-Kelly, Sandra Carroll, Scheryl Carroll & Scott Carroll.
Althea was a generous woman who strove to bring happiness, love, and light to everyone around her. Everyone knew Althea as a selfless woman who opened her heart and home to anyone she came across. Her door was always open, and she welcomed guests with her warm and friendly smile. Althea was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt & friend to many. She offered a sanctuary of warmth and acceptance to everyone she met, embodying the divine virtues of unconditional love and strength of spirit.
Throughout her life, Althea served as a steward of God’s blessings, accounting for the needs of others with the same meticulous care she devoted to her profession. Her career began in her early 20’s working at Monticello Daycare & Carrolls Daycare Center. She then began working at Lutheran Hospital as a nurse assistant. Once she began to have children, she dedicated her life to raising her children. Her final place of employment was at Blue Cross Blue Shield where she retired after 25 years.
She loved Camping, Shopping, Watching ION, Cruising, and spending time with her family. She was actively involved with the Milwaukee Urban League, NAACP & Emmaus Lutheran Church & School. She regularly contributed monetarily to the United Negro College Fund, Red Cross, St. Jude Foundation, local Police Forms and many other charitable organizations.
Althea is preceded in death by her Father Alfred Garner Sr., Mother Mary Lee Garner, Mother-In-Law Katheryn Jordan, Brother in Law, Vaughn Carroll, Micheal Carroll, James Carroll & Delbert Jordan, James Wilson & Sister in law Janell Jordan.
Althea fought a good fight to the very end and entered into eternal life on Friday, March 1, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She leaves to cherish her memory Husband Charles E. Carroll,

Grandchildren LaTiesha Twitty, Janay (Jeffrey) McClain-Kelly, J’Anna McClain-Kelly, Donovan (Lasainya) Peavy, Malik Evans & Miyah Evans. Great-Grandchild Children, Torri’Anna Carroll, Carter Evans, Chandler Evans Aleivia-Kamille Peavy & Oliver-Karmello Peavy. Great Great Grandson Torrian Carroll, all of Milwaukee. Siblings Marvin (Donna)Garner , Patricia Diane Johnson, Bonnie Wilson, Alfred (Inell) Garner Jr, Deborah (Teddy) Givens. Special hand in raising John W. Coleman Jr., Jonathan Garner Sr. & Kimberly Dennis. A host of loving nieces, nephews, family & friends.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, followed by a service at 12:00 PM on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1115 North 35th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Procession to follow to Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
