Salvatore “Sam” Branda, beloved uncle, brother-in-law, cousin and friend, passed away on September 3, 2026 at the age of 78.
Sam grew up on Milwaukee’s East Side, attended Riverside High School, and lived and worked on Astor Street for most of his life. He was a longtime employee and proud custodian at The Astor Hotel, where he eventually retired. The Brady Street area remained a special part of his life, and he cherished the neighborhood and the people he came to know there.
A true Milwaukee sports fan, Sam loved his Brewers, Packers and Bucks and was always ready to talk about the latest game. Rarely seen without his favorite baseball hat, he was also known for his friendly nature and love of people. He enjoyed socializing and rarely passed someone without saying hello or offering a friendly wave.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose (nee Toto) Branda, and his brother, Joseph Branda.
He is survived by his nephew, Steven (Megan) Branda; niece, Janel (Matt) Medvecz; great-nephews, Beau and Luke Branda and Tyson Medvecz; sister-in-law, Karen Branda; cousins, Marie (Paul) Pritchard, Lucy (Larry) Lehmann, and Josephine (John) Litzenberger; along with many other cousins, extended family members, and his many dear friends from Milwaukee’s East Side and the Village at Manor Park.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the kind nurses at West Allis Memorial Hospital’s ICU and Ascension Reiman Center for their compassion, kindness and care.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Service at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin 53151.
