Blondell Eloise Staten “Blondie” was born on July 24, 1955, to the union of Estell and Margie Staten in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the fourth of six children born to this union.
Blondell accepted Christ at an early age and attended Holy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She later united with the New Testament Church of Milwaukee until her passing.
Blondell attended Brown Street Elementary School, Wells Junior High School, and West Division High Schools. She earned her B.A. and Master’s degrees from Cardinal Stritch University.
Blondell Staten united in holy matrimony with Jewel Currie. Together, they had two sons, Julian and Brandon. She later married Gregory Lott.
As a teenager, she began her working life as a salesclerk at J.L. Marcus Clothing and Shoe Store, where she worked alongside three of her siblings. Her strong work ethic and dedication continued at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company where she worked for 18 years. In time, she followed her true calling—nurturing and inspiring children—as an educator within Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS). She faithfully served for 16 years before retiring in 2011. Even in retirement, her love for children and passion for teaching never faded, and she continued sharing her gifts at New Testament Christian Academy. Her energy and commitment to helping others also led her to work part-time as a personal trainer at her sisters’ Curves Health Club in Milwaukee, alongside their mother. Never one to remain still for long, after relocating to Indianapolis, she continued working at The West Indy Racquet Club, owned by her son, Brandon Currie.
Her mornings would usually start with a visit to her neighborhood coffee shop, where she would always order her favorite “Caramel Macchiato, please” before beginning her daily walk. And let us not forget her yogurt and granola with pineapple for breakfast. Blondell truly missed her calling as an interior designer. Every room in her house looked like a picture from a home decorating magazine, admired by all.
Blondell would not leave the house on a night out unless her hair was perfectly coiffured, her outfit and makeup were flawless, and a spritz of her favorite perfume, Oscar de la Renta. Upon final check, she would lovingly say, “Ok, I’m ready now.” She was a very elegant lady. Blondie was known by all as a loving, kind, and caring person, always showing concern for others.
She had a true “green thumb” like our mom and brother, Bruce. She loved working in her yard, spending hours growing and nurturing her plants and flowers. She created a beautiful, natural, and relaxing landscape to enjoy. Her house was filled with many colorful and vibrant plants that were pampered with gentle, loving care.
Blondell leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She will be remembered for:
• Being a Pillar of Support: She was an amazing mother who tirelessly supported her sons in their academic endeavors and celebrated their achievements in sports.
• A Boundless Love for Family: She made it no secret how much she adored her sons, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews.
• A Proud Grandmother: She was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader, taking every opportunity to share pictures and stories of their growth and success.
