Peggy Anne Hammel entered Eternal Life on August 26, 2024 at her home in New Berlin, Wisconsin, at the age of 79.
Loving wife of William. Loving mother of Daniel (special friend Kaye Dunn) Hammel and Laura (Brian) Starfeldt. Adoring grandmother of Blake and Bennett. Further survived by her sister, Marybeth (Craig) Stilwell and brother, Robert (Susan) Elertson and sisters-in-law Marlene (Robert) Zivens and Sandra Hammel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Sophie (nee Grafenauer) Elertson, who proudly raised her in a Christian home; her sister, Carol Goodman; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Ethel Hammel; her brothers-in-law, Earl Hammel and John Hammel and sister-in-law, Patricia Skurulsky.
Peggy was a devout Christian who loved her family. She was born in Coffeyville, Kansas. Peggy graduated from Nathan Hale High School. At UW-Oshkosh, she met the love of her life, Bill Hammel. Bill and Peggy were united in marriage on January 27, 1968. They lived in Greenfield, Wisconsin and later welcomed two children, Dan and Laura. One of Peggy’s biggest joys was becoming a grandmother to Blake and Bennett. Peggy used her attention-to-detail (inherited from her mother) as an administrative assistant, eventually retiring from Fiserv. She enjoyed golfing, shopping, and spending time in Door County with family and friends. She was always social, caring and willing to help anyone in need.
The family would like to thank Kaile at Holistic Hospice and the warm-hearted caregivers, and Peggy’s “girlfriends” at Synergy for their compassion and care during her final days. The family is especially grateful for the presence of Peggy’s niece, Debbie, for all of her love and devotion, and the hours spent over the last several years helping Bill and Peggy in their time of need.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5901 Westway, Greendale, Wisconsin. Memorial Service at 12:00 PM. A luncheon location will be announced after the service; family and friends are all encouraged to join.
