Passed away on August 20, 2023, at age 94.
Visitation at All Saints Catholic Church, 4051 North 25th Street, Milwaukee, on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 3:3o PM to 5:15 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at 5:30 PM.
Deacon Edward Blaze, a husband, father, grandfather, minister and loyal friend to many, was born on July 12th, 1929, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to parents Mammie Williams and Edward Blaze, Sr.
As a young man he received his high school education from Sacred Heart in Lake Charles, LA. Edward Blaze proudly served his country by enlisting into the United States Airforce in 1947 and served six years. While on leave, visiting his sister he met a spirited young woman.
Edward was united in holy matrimony with Dorothy Belle Myrick on August 10th, 1952, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. They were married for 71 devoted years. Their union was blessed with five children. Edward and Dorothy with family relocated to Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1955 to begin his formal education at Milwaukee School of Engineering. He continued his education at Milwaukee Area Technical College where he received an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. For many years after graduation, Edward Blaze worked at the Wisconsin Telephone Company where he retired.
In 1972 he attended St. Francis Seminary in the Permanent Deaconate program and was ordained in December of 1975. He served the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for 28 years and was the oldest Permanent Deacon in the Milwaukee Archdiocese at the time of his death. His ministries were numerous, but Deacon Ed Blaze thrived in his various liturgical responsibilities and prison ministries.
He took pride in home ownership, in family time on Sundays after church, and vacationing during the summers with family. Most importantly he loved reading scripture and sharing his love of scripture with family and friends.
Deacon Edward Blaze departed this life on Sunday, August 20th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his son, Darrel Blaze; granddaughter Cherisse Lee; great-grandchildren Amazih Blaze and Naomi Lee. He leaves to cherish in his memory his beloved wife Dorothy Belle Blaze and their four living children Lindston Blaze, Micheal Blaze Jr., Cynthia Blaze, Vallarie Blaze; eight grandchildren: Margaret Lee, Micheal Blaze (Lovell), Angela Blaze-Green, Sharlene Lee, Niqui Lee, Maria Blaze, Therese Crawford, and Chad Blaze; he continued to be blessed with 19 great-grandchildren; Mykail Blaze, Vito Redding Jr., Keivon Green, Syniah Lee, Malek Lee, Samariah Lee, Aziah Lee, Alaylah Lee, Macabe Blaze, Amazih Blaze (deceased), Kadre Lee, Teijon Green, Taylor Blaze, Nicholas Lee, Adrien Lee-White, Zakeel Waheed, Sayden Lee, Artise Newton, Zion Newton, Zipphorah Newton; and a host of treasured nieces and nephews and extended family members.
His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by many.
