Harold was born on July 9, 1938, in Anderson South Carolina to Broadus and Gladys Bagwell (Holland) in their family home. He was the youngest of 12 children. He started working in the cotton mills of South Carolina as a young man and worked until he went into the Navy. This is how he met the love of his life, Janice R Schmidt. While stationed in Milwaukee, WI they met and fell in love. They moved back to South Carolina where they started their family. Eventually moving back to Wisconsin so he could make a better life for them. They went on to have 2 more children, followed by 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
As a young man, Harold loved bowling. He bowled in leagues and on TV and won many trophies. He was also a wonderful artist who was passionate about drawing, which he has passed down to children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was passionate about the Lord and loved that his brother, Ralph was a Baptist preacher and that Ralph’s son, Mark followed in his footsteps. He was truly a family man who always worked hard to provide the best life. He loved us all wholeheartedly and deeply. We heard from him every morning and every night.
Papa, you are loved, missed, and remembered daily. We don’t know how to do life without you, but we will learn. Don’t worry about your J-Bird, we will take care of her as you watch over her from heaven.
We will gather to celebrate his life, love and laughter on May 2nd, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 13445 Hampton Road, Brookfield, Wisconsin. Gathering will begin at 10:00 AM and service will begin at 11:30 AM.
