Roger Charles Middleton, a devoted husband and father, went to be with the Lord, on January 28, 2023.
He battled the past three years with heart and brain damage resulting from a defective metal hip replacement. Roger was born on March 27, 1942 in Hammond, Indiana to Donald and Evelyn Middleton, the oldest of two children. His father passed when Roger was only 2. His mother and extended family raised him and his sister Fay in both Indiana and Wisconsin. After graduating from high school, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Greely Alaska.
He was a star pitcher for the Army’s baseball team and reflected all his life on days he was there. After serving our country, he returned to his family living in Milwaukee, WI. It was there that Roger met the love of his life, Sharon and they were married on June 15, 1968. Together they raised two daughters Laura and Kelly. A devoted Catholic, Roger was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi and St. Mary’s parishes. He shared the gift of his faith with his family all his life. Roger had a talent for and a love of numbers.
He worked as a bookkeeper for Standard Oil in Wood River, IL and then as a bookkeeper for a popular art supplies store in Milwaukee called The Palette Shop. While working there he went to night school at the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) obtaining his accounting degree. Roger became the accountant for Coin Appliance Gas Service Heating and Equipment where he was a loyal and devoted employee for over 30 years. Roger retired in 2008 only to spend the equivalent amount of time playing on senior baseball and softball teams.
However, he did take time away to travel around the United States on many memorable vacations with his wife. He was a lifelong fan of sports, a devoted fan and shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. He cheered on the Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee Bucks. He was very grateful to have a lifelong friendship with Tom Briesmeister, who he enjoyed many Wisconsin Badger football and Marquette basketball games with.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and several close family members, Harry Marshall, Rich Lindsey, Donna Marshall, Dorothy and Rudy Berling, Bruce and Cherie Berling and Edward Silbernagel. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Sharon, his sister Fay Maki (Dennis), his daughters Laura Kollatz (Stephen) and Kelly Zarka (Daniel), grandchildren Zachary Kollatz, Anna Zarka, Evan Zarka, Saschele Dean (Matt), Kyle Jaeger and Daniel Jaeger(Taylor) and six great-grandchildren. Also mourning his passing are family members Gail Silbernagel, Marcia Graves (Whitney), many nieces and nephews and the many neighbors Roger was fortunate to get to know during his daily walks. We love and will miss him forever. Roger’s love lives on in each of us and we look forward to being reunited in heaven.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin on Sunday, February 5th, from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM. Funeral Service at 6:00 PM. Roger will be laid to rest on Monday, February 6th at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Catholic Resurrection Cemetery, 9400 West Donges Bay Road, Mequon, Wisconsin.
