Called home to the Lord on Monday, July 26, 2021, age 90. Beloved husband of Mary for 64 years. Loving dad of Linda (Tom) Lehmann, Julie (Chris) Gallo, and Paul (Jean) Simmons. Cherished grandpa of Tony (Danielle), Stephen (Michelle), Michael (Lori Ann), Nichole (Justin), Amy (Eric), and Andrew (Brian). Proud great-grandpa of Jack, Benjamin, Sam, Lucas, Charlotte, Miles and soon-to-be baby Berghoefer. Further survived by other relatives and friends.
Roy and Mary met at the Eagles Ballroom in 1955 shortly after he returned from 4 years of service in the Air Force, during the Korean War.
He started his own business, Simmons Building Products in 1980. A company that provided commercial windows and was involved in numerous high-profile projects throughout the State of Wisconsin.
Roy enjoyed life to the fullest. He had many interests like running marathons, being a member of the Waukesha Scuba Diving Club “Chickens of the Sea”, downhill skiing in the Midwest and the Rockies. He was also a member of the Greendale Village Showmen. They were a Barbershop Chorus that performed and competed. Roy and Mary, along with close friends, were also members of a Gourmet Dinner Club for 35 years. Roy was an avid golfer, though you may find some of his clubs in the course trees. He was a long-time season ticket holder for the Milwaukee Bucks and Green Bay Packers and attended the 1967 Ice Bowl and also followed Marquette Basketball. For Roy and Mary, traveling internationally was a major part of their life. They traveled to China, Russia, Australia, the South Pacific, Caribbean, Europe, Israel, and others. They also enjoyed traveling the USA in their Motor Coach with family and friends. Their favorite destination was Walt Disney World Fort Wilderness Campground and they are one of the original members of the Disney Vacation Club at Old Key West. His passion was tending to his yard. One of his greatest pleasures was cutting his grass on his lawn tractor and tending to his roses. We very much want to give our heartfelt appreciation to Autumn Leaves staff in Franklin for all the love and care that they gave this past year.
Roy, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa was deeply loved by his family and friends. He will be missed by all.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Now enter into the joy of God’s Kingdom. Rest in Peace.
