Reunited with his beloved wife Frances on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89. Devoted father of Sharon Aquino, Sandra (Jim) Baier, Susette Aquino and Miles (Alison) Aquino. Treasured grandfather to Jeffrey and Jonathan Baier. Al also leaves behind two loving sisters, Ely Bayle and Lydia (Romy) Alcazar.
Born in the Philippines in 1925, Al came to the United States in 1953 after graduating from the University of Santo Thomas. He met Frances, a nurse, while completing his medical residency at St. Michael's Hospital. Dr. Aquino was a general surgeon who practiced more than six decades in the Milwaukee area. He worked at St. Michael's, St. Anthony's and Columbia Hospitals. He also owned a medical clinic. Dr. Aquino was a tireless volunteer, working at the free local medical clinic in the Philippine Center, as well as traveling back to the Philippines on medical missions.
Al was a respected elder in the Milwaukee Filipino community. He was active in FAMA, RMMF, FAWIS, Filipino Catholic Ministry, and UST Alumni Association of WI.
Al proudly served in the US Army Reserves and attained the rank of Lt. Col. He was called to active duty during Operation Desert Storm. His other passion – in addition to his family – was playing golf. In the last few months of his life, one of his greatest joys was playing golf with his children and his nephews Wein and Hubert Bayle.
Visitation at ST. ANTHONY CATHOLIC CHURCH, N74 W13604 Appleton Avenue, Menomonee Falls, on Saturday, June 13, at 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Entombment to follow at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the American Lung Association.
The family would like to thank the Courage Clinic at Froedtert Hospital and Horizon Hospice for all of their caring support. They also extend their gratitude to Dad's special caregiver in his final days, Cynthia Densen.
