Born July 30, 1924, died October 22, 2016
Predeceased by his ‘Beautiful Dorothy’ Knitter, married 66 years.
Norbert was a WWII veteran and proudly served in the 22nd Bombardment Group of the 408th Squadron on the B-24 Liberator as an aircraft radio operator and side gunner in the Western Pacific. He survived 31 missions. He loved the B-24 and would tell anyone who would listen, how it was a great plane and under appreciated. Upon returning from the War, Norbert and Dorothy married in May, 1946 and together raised eight children. Norbert was a draftsman, worked in several architectural firms and retired from HUD as a Construction Analyst. As our Dad, he shared with his children all about electrical, plumbing and plastering projects which we have all used at one time or another.
Our Dad introduced to our family the love of art, architecture and music. Dad was extremely enthusiastic when the Milwaukee Art Museum was built overlooking the Lake in the 1960s. Norbert and Dorothy loved dancing in our household while listening to old Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller albums. Their theme for the 50th Anniversary was ‘Strings of Pearls’.
We remember our Dad barbecuing in the backyard, smoking a stogie and drinking a cold beer, one of his quiet pleasures.
Norbert is survived by his children: Kathleen (Ron) Perotti of Santa Rosa, CA; Thomas Knitter of Santa Barbara, CA; Jeanne Luprecht (Reynold, deceased) of Pewaukee, WI; Marjorie Meister of North Bay, Ontario; Elaine (Randy) Roesler of Charleston, SC; Carolyn (David, deceased) Roberts of Sarasota, FL; David (Vicki) Knitter of Vacaville, CA and Michael (Dawn) Knitter of Auburn, CA.
