Proud grandpa of Dennis (Jenny), Brad, Dan, Peter (Maria), Jason, Tom (Gaby), John and Zach. Cherished great-grandpa of Anthony, Ava, Parker, and Aria. Further survived by siblings Ann Etchison and Tim Salfer, sister-in-law Corky Salfer, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Preceded in death by siblings George (Betty) and Mike Salfer, and in-laws Joe Marquardt and Dolly Salfer.
Born on August 16, 1930, Richard was the firstborn child of the late George and Dorothy (Ganiere) Salfer. Growing up, he attended St. Michael’s grade school and Marquette high school. He was a proud alumni of Marquette University, majoring in accounting. Richard was also a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and served in active duty during the Korean War. On September 24, 1960, he was united in marriage to Gloria Hauser. Together, the couple lived in the Milwaukee area for 56 years. Richard was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, Cub Scout leader, and Holy Name member. He later belonged to St Leonard’ Catholic Church in Muskego. Richard was also an active member of The Pius XI High School Father’s Club. He was an avid bowler, participating in tournaments around the country, and bowling in almost every bowling alley in the Milwaukee area. He enjoyed watching sports and was an enthusiastic fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, Wisconsin Badgers (football only) and the Marquette Warriors. Richard was best known for his devotion to God, his passionate love for family, his huge smile, his fondness for mischief, and his marvelous sense of humor.
Visitation at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral Service at 10:45 AM. Committal at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
