I was very sorry to learn that he is gone today. I met Stuart almost 10 years ago when I became a volunteer at Children's Hospital. It was my first time doing anything like it, and I was young and nervous about what to do in my new role. I remember him as being a kind and helpful person that encouraged me to be creative and find different ways to help the kids and teens that I would interact with so they could have fun and enjoy themselves. I am so sorry for his close loved ones, but know that he touched the lives of many people and will always be remembered!

It was with great sadness that I learned of Stuart's passing just today. My son Nolan was at Children's and as with every appointment, the trip would not be complete without a stop by the gift shop to see if Stuart was working and to ask about him. My son loved their chats over the past 10 or so years, and if Stuart wasn't there, Nolan would need to ask the volunteers about what building he was in, what type of meeting he was attending, when he would be back, and that he said hello. Stuart was so lively, engaging and generous with his time. A favorite memory is the time the two of them were chatting about the chocolate pudding at CHW. Being a chocolate connoisseur, Stuart remarked that the chocolate pudding at Froedtert cafeteria was far superior. Before I knew it, Nolan had me trekking him over to Froedtert, complete with all the electrodes attached to his head for his daytime sleep study, in order to check out this high recommendation! Stuart was such a kindhearted man and our thoughts go out to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and our fond memories of him will stay in our hearts. May you find comfort in knowing that he touched so many lives in such a positive way.

To Stuart's Mum and Dad and Liz, it was my privilege to have known and worked with Stuart at Children's. I would not only see him in the gift shop but would often run into him in the "tunnel" walking to off from the hospital. He never failed to smile and greet me, putting a smile on my face. He was proud of the work he did and proud of his purpose in serving not only the patients and families at the hospital but also all the staff. You should be so proud of Stuart for the person he was and the impact he had on all who knew him. He is missed and will always be remembered for his kindness and humor. Prayers for strength and peace for you in the days ahead. May you find comfort in knowing how touched and Blessed we were for knowing Stuart and the legacy he leaves behind. My deepest sympathies for your loss. #Stuartnation

Mr. and Mrs.Mason and Liz, It is with deep sorrow and sympathy that I write this to you. I feel very blessed to have known and worked with Stuart. He was an inspiration in his devotion to the gift shop, the customers, employees, volunteers, and everyone in contact with him. His winning sense of humor and teasing kept his staff in good spirits. He was the heart and soul of the gift shop. While this loss is unbearably sad, he will be remembered fondly and with a smile. Suki

Dear Mr and Mrs. Mason... I know the words "I'm sorry" will be said many many times in the days and the months to come.. but I would like to say.. "Thank you". Thank you for blessing this Earth with such a wonderful person as Stuart. I first got to know Stuart almost 3 years ago when I joined the Therapy dog Team with my dog Manny. I loved his Accent and I always tried to copy it and in return Stuart would always laugh and say "not quite.. good but naaaaa" He always made me laugh about something especially because everytime I came to Childrens for my visits with Manny... I ALWAYS forgot something wether it was my list of Children to see or my Vest or my glasses.. it was always something.. it became a running joke with him. He was always so proud of me when finally a day would come when I wouldn't forget something. I loved his love of dogs. He was just a good good person and my first stop was always either at his office or the gift shop to say hello and he would give Manny a big bear hug.. Manny is a Newfoundland and he knew how much they drank water so he gave Manny his own personal water bowl in the back of the shop so he could have a drink whenever he needed it. I sit here in tears because I didn't volunteer last month with too much going on in my life and I missed the chance to see him again which makes me so incredibly sad. I hope in knowing how many people loved your son that just knowing that and all the wonderful memories you must have of him give you the strength to carry on. My prayers are with you and Stuart and all that loved him.

Dear Derek and Doreen and Liz, I can only imagine the pain of your loss with the passing of the marvelous Stuart. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am so sorry and I, too, am heartbroken. I only knew Stuart for three years as I volunteered in the gift shop on Friday mornings. It was always a delight to see Stuart and enjoy his teasing and sense of humor. Stuart related to everyone with kindness and insight - patients, parents, families, kids, adults, colleagues, volunteers, employees, vendors. He managed the many aspects of the gift shop with grace and efficiency, making sure there was helium for gift balloons and finding toys and games that would delight kids who spent hours in bed. His focus was on doing the best for the kids and their families by his imaginative stock of interesting items and keeping up on the latest trends in the worlds of childhood (all while keeping prices down so gifts were affordable). Stuart related to each person with whom he interacted with a light, personal touch which people enjoyed and appreciated. On Friday, there was a bouquet of flowers with Stuart's obituary on the counter in the gift shop. Countless CHW employees came and read it and wept, expressing their sense of loss and appreciation for having known Stuart. May time ease the pain of your loss and may you have much love and support in these difficult days.

Just loved hearing Stuart speak -- his accent and positive attitude made everything he said so much more important, or funny! He wore his passion for his job and the mission of CHW as clearly as our blue volunteer jackets and vests. He will be missed. My condolences to Liz, who I didn't know was his special partner, as well as all of Stuart's family. He was special man. RIP Stuart. So sorry we will be out of town for the services, but prayers of his joyful entry into eternal life have been said.

i have known Stuart for 13 years since i began volunteering at Children's hospital. Every Monday I worked I have been greeted with a cheery "halo" and an excited litany of what is new in the gift shop. Stuart was so kind to so many of us, but his spirit of compassion and generosity was especially strong with children and their parents, especially those who spent countless hours in the hospital. He always tried to keep prices affordable to families, saying they had suffer enough, why not let them afford buying items for themselves and their children. He won so many hearts, including my own, having begun my week with so many laughs, stories, gardening tips and priceless British sayings. Now my heart hurts, but as you said so many times to us volunteers "carry on", we will do that in your memory but will miss you so much. You were a one of a kind and a kinder person I have never met. Love you

I would give you a hard time when my favorite chocolates weren't loaded in the candy jar at the gift shop and you gave a me a hard time right back but went out of your way to make me happy by pulling out my favorites from the overstock. You were awesome and I am truly blessed to have known you Stuart.

To Stuart's mum and dad, Liz and his dear dear friends... Such a sad day for all of us in #stuartnationNo words. Much Too soon. Stuart opened his heart and home to anyone who needed respite from the seriousness of life. He didn't respond to titles, wealth or worth. He just gave you something to laugh about. He cared for people as if it were a calling in life and he looked to what your soul needed and filled it up with the absurd, the strange, humorous anecdotes that leave you shaking your head and forgetting your troubles. Life will NEVER be the same. We counted on Stuart to get us the best deal, make us giggle and grin, bring joy to the crazy, remind us not to take life too seriously and to be proud of what you do! He made each and every day special for someone. Children stop by the gift shop asking for him knowing he will brighten their day. While I know alll too well that time heals, I will do my best to honor the spirit and legacy of Stuart by seeking out a joy filled moment each day so as not to take life too seriously --as he proved life really is too short #stuartnation❤️

Stuart was the person most of us aspire to be our whole lives. Warm, compassionate, selfless, happy, and welcoming. I always felt better about my day after running into him at work, and will always laugh at the memories I have of how excited and eager Stuart was to talk about anything English, any time, especially the Royal family! Rest well, my colleague, and keep 'em all laughing above! We will never forget the mark you made on this planet, and on us. Goodbye for now.
