Dennis enjoyed the important things in life – first and foremost his family and his Church. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to his wife and children, and his six grandchildren were his pride and joy. As youngsters, he loved to make them laugh with his animated character. As they grew older, he was there for them for anything they needed and provided guidance in any way he could. As a cherished member of the Greek community, Dennis was a friend to many and passed on the traditions and the importance of community to his family. He loved to fish and hunt, and of course – to cook. He had an uncanny ability to catch big fish from Rowley’s Bay, in Door County, Wisconsin to Cape San Blas, Florida. In his later years, he enjoyed sharing these activities as well as travel with his companion, Joan. All who knew him were comforted by knowing his door was always open to drop by and visit, and likely enjoy whatever was cooking on the stove.
Born in Filiatra, Greece, his father and mother moved him and his sisters to Milwaukee in 1949 where he attended Milwaukee West Division High School and MSOE University before moving to Brookfield, Wis. to raise his family in 1968. Dennis spent 39 years as a machinist at the Ladish Company. Throughout his life, he and his wife, Kathy, engaged in a variety of entrepreneurial endeavors including a driving school in the late 60s and early 70s and festival food service businesses, starting with participation in the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tenn. His talent and passion for amazing Greek cooking led to opening a successful food stand business with Kathy and his two sons at Milwaukee’s South Shore in 1985 which he ran with his family and friends until 2013. It was here at the South Shore Café that he warmed the hearts of so many, providing a place for friends and family to gather every summer to enjoy not only Dennis’ Greek specialties, but friendship and love.
As a father, Papou, brother, Theo and friend – you will be greatly missed and always remembered in our hearts. We love you.
