Melvin Rabon Sr.

Melvin Rabon Sr. was born June 14, 1932, in Bryceland, Louisiana to loving parents, Moses Rabon Sr. and Lola Mae Rabon. He was the second born of ten children.

Melvin accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized at New Raspberry Baptist Church in Bienville, LA with his cousins John Melton and Nellie Jean under cousin, Pastor Artis Melton.

Melvin attended Bienville elementary school through 7^th grade and attended Shady Grove through high school. He was drafted in the armed services after high school and decided to join the Marine Corps; Melvin served during the Korean War. After serving in the Marines, Melvin returned home to Grambling, Louisiana, and attended Grambling State University.

After attending college, Melvin moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his Aunt Bessie and worked at Mid-City Foundry. After a few years, Melvin became employed at Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery where he worked for more than 30 years as a brewery worker and remained until his retirement.

On May 8^th, 1965, Melvin was united in holy matrimony to the former Ladora (Dorie) Turner and that union lasted for more than 55 years until his death.

Melvin was an avid bowler and bowled in many leagues throughout his life. He also enjoyed golf, but his passion was fishing. Melvin took great joy in taking his children camping and fishing with his best friend Max Bennet’s family. Melvin also enjoyed long road trips with his family. He was a handyman that could fix almost anything. He also enjoyed telling stories about his childhood. When he visited his family in Louisiana, he would take his children to historical locations and tell stories about why that spot was so significant. More recently, Melvin spent his days at the Clinton Rose Senior Center and playing dominos. Out of all the activities he enjoyed doing, he found the most joy in spending time with his grandchildren.

Melvin entered into eternal life on Wednesday, June 17^th, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Moses Sr. and Lola Mae Rabon, brothers Moses Jr. and Theron Rabon, and son Dwight Turner. Melvin is survived by his wife Ladora, children Lexandrea (Hiawatha) Rabon-Austin, Gabrielle Rabon, Melvin (Jenny) Rabon Jr, Latoya Rabon, Melissa Rabon and Lawrence Rabon. He was a loving father to Felicia Jones, Gary Curtis, Tyrone Curtis, Andre Curtis, Renatto Curtis, and Patrice Curtis. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren who affectionally called him Granddad, 24 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his siblings, Billy (Elowise) Rabon, Bobby (Youlia) Rabon, Dr. Mary Rabon Ellis, Gloria Rabon, Faye (Billy) Henderson, Thomas Rabon, Tommy Rabon, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 7001 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Service at 3:00 PM.
