REMEMBERING…
Sheryl Lynne Sims-Daniels (Nee Sims) was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 8, 1956 to Warren Sims and Frances Jordan.
Sheryl attended elementary school in Milwaukee Public Schools. She was an active member of Junior Achievement during her middle and high school years. Sheryl was a proud graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, an all-girl Catholic School, in St. Francis, WI. After graduation, Sheryl continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, earning a bachelor’s degree, with a major in Communications and a minor in Sociology.
Sheryl was committed to serving and working in her local community. During college, she worked for the City of Milwaukee Recreation Department. While working there, she developed an affinity for young people and an affection for the game of chess. Sheryl went on to work for the City of Milwaukee, Safety Commission, as a supervisor. After this, she continued her career, working for the city’s Sanitation Department, as a manager. Some of her most cherished work was with the Fair Housing Council, where she began as a volunteer and went on to join the staff there. Sheryl was extremely passionate about the mission of the Fair Housing Council and worked with the agency to ensure that Milwaukee residents received equal housing opportunities and fair treatment. She was also committed to advocating for the elderly, the homeless and for health care. Due to Sheryl’s firm belief in civic engagement, she became very active in the electoral process. She volunteered with the Board of Elections, in addition to working the polls. She was adamant about engaging this process and received her ballot just short of being able to participate in this year’s election.
Sheryl was a member of St. Mark’s African Methodist Episcopal Church in Milwaukee, WI. She volunteered at the church nursery and daycare. She also enjoyed working as a committee member of the annual Christmas/Santa Claus breakfast. She was an avid reader. She loved the theater, travel, music, and learning about various cultures, foods, and traditions. Sheryl was on the board of directors for the Hansberry Sands Theater and made her own acting debut in the 2019 film, Give me Liberty, which received accolades from the Cannes Film and Sundance festivals, as well as Roger and Ebert and Rotten Tomatoes. She was loved for her warm, tender and compassionate spirit.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons Nicholas (wife, Kimberly) Daniels, and Shelton (wife, Marissa) Daniels. She was the proud grandmother of Nikyla Ella, Maleah Mercedes-Lee, Mason Maruice, and Milan Monet-Inell. Daughter of Frances Jordan. Sister of Kimber (husband, Willie) Bryant, Euriael R.
