Daryl passed peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2021 at the age or 98. Daryl was born in Charlotte, NC to Raymond and Lisette Motte. He was preceded in passing by his parents Raymond and Martha Lisette Motte, brother Raymond Motte Jr., and his sister Virginia Walker Seidens. He is greatly missed and beloved by his wife of over 76 years, Shirley (Corley), his three children and Judy (James) Haugsland, Stephen (Suzanne) Motte, and David (Tricia) Motte. Beloved Grandfather of Julia (Jeff) Sapp, James (Lisa) Haugsland, Jill (Paul) Pheffer, Jared and Brandon Motte, Allie and John-Riley DeMarsh, Vincent Catalano, Daryl Motte, and Stephanie (Damon) Sanchez. Cherished Great Grandpa to 14 great grandchildren: Zachary and Ethan Haugsland, Wesley, Wade, Lisette, Andersen and Auden Pheffer, Olivia Sapp, Kaya and Malachi Love, Maximo DeMarsch, Madelynn, Noah, and Story Sanchez. He is also survived by his beloved nephews David (Sharon) Walker, Richard Seidens, and niece Sue Seidens.
Daryl enjoyed a long career working for Manpower Inc., as Assistant Vice President, retiring in 2000 after 41 years of service. He held many responsibilities during his tenure including National Accounts, Director of Franchising, National Director of Industrial Services, and active in Regional and National Sales Operations.
Daryl and Shirley are long time members of United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay since 1961, where he acted in many voluntary positions include President of the Board of Trustees.
Daryl was also very active in Milwaukee Area Boy Scouts and received the Distinguished Commissioner Award, and the Silver Beaver Award.
In retirement, Daryl continued his volunteer work with the Church and the Scouts, pursued photography as his hobby. Daryl and Shirley travel to multiple continents and countries around the world. They especially enjoyed visiting with Shirley’s cousins in England.
Daryl’s served his country as a pilot in the US Army Air Corps and U.S. Airforce. In WWII, as an Aircraft Commander and was certified to fly C-1a, B-17, B-24, B-25 aircraft, and supported glider pilot training stateside. After the war, he was stationed in Italy in the occupation forces In the Korean Conflict, First Lt. Motte flew 50 Night Missions over enemy territory as a Blackbird. He was awarded the Air Medal w/ 2 Oak Cluster, and the Distinguished Flying Cross, for piloting a B-26, which was painted black, with no guns, with no lights: Alone! Unarmed! Unafraid?
Internment of his ashes, with Military Honors, will be held outdoors at 3:00 PM on June 2, 2021 at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, Wisconsin. The celebration of his life, immediately following the Military Honors Ceremony, will be held at Michael’s On The Lake, 3101 Eagle Road, Kansasville, Wisconsin.
