Born in Augsburg, Germany, on June 19, 1947 to the late Janis (John) and the late Austra (nee Kalnins) Salmins. Passed March 27, 2025 with Andrea by his side.

Husband of Cindy (nee Heiting) for 40 years. Father of Steven (Michele), Christopher (the late Brenda) and Andrea. Grandpa of Madisyn, Emma and Caleb. Brother of Ingrid (the late Tim) Schneider and Judy (David) Lillie. Uncle of Brian (Kim) Schneider, Justin (Kym) Lillie and Karen Lillie (Corey Burns).

Val enjoyed Wisconsin sports, vacations, especially cruises, with family, golfing and giving the family dogs far too many treats.

Val retired from Milwaukee County Transit System. In his retirement, Val worked part time at Tosa Pharmacy. In his last days, he spoke of that being his favorite job, and reminisced about the fun he had with coworkers and customers. He knew every dog and cat on his delivery route and provide treats for them.

Visitation Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:45 AM; service at 12:00 PM. Private interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park in the future by family.

I met Val when I moved to Wisconsin 11 years ago through a mutual friend, Bill W. I saw Val once or twice each week until his recent health issues prevented him from getting out much. Val was always calm and steady, which was a good influence on me. I will miss him.
