Terry Glen Shaw, affectionately known as “T-Shaw,” was born on January 7, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI, to the union of Presley Jr. and Mai Helen (Rogers) Shaw. Terry faced the loss of his mother at the age of six. Following her passing, his beloved grandmother, Lizzie (Roper) Rogers, stepped in and became the maternal figure in his life, lovingly known as “mama.”
In 2000, Terry married the love of his life, Sharon (Green). Their marriage was a testament to true love, built on a solid foundation. Along with being a husband he accepted the responsibility of being a father to Sharon’s daughter, Nyah. They instantly became a family and Terry embraced fatherhood with open arms, raising Nyah like his own with unconditional love. He was a wonderful father who spoiled her endlessly, always ensuring she felt cherished and supported.
From a young age, Terry accepted Christ as his Savior at Mt Zion Baptist Church. He attended James Madison High School, graduating in 1979. His educational journey continued to the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff and he later decided to return to Wisconsin and attend UW-Oshkosh. Terry took great joy in his many years of working with children with special needs, retiring from Milwaukee Public Schools as a Paraprofessional in 2013.
In 2018, Terry became “Papa” with the birth of his grandson, Boston. They had a bond like no other, staying up endless nights, every weekend watching sports and once he introduced Boston to Michael Jackson, it was over, they would stay up for hours watching dance videos. Boston was truly his best friend.
Above all, Terry was passionate about family. He was a laid-back guy who always kept you laughing, and his infectious, easy-going nature made people love being around him. His warmth and charisma drew others in, making everyone feel welcome and at ease. Terry had a gift for creating an atmosphere where people wanted to stay, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company. His happiest moments were spent lighting his grills to bring family and friends together for backyard barbecues and parties. He took pride in making sure everyone got a taste of his award-winning ribs and brisket.
Terry was an extremely enthusiastic sports fan. Although he loved all sports, the Packers held a special green and gold place in his heart, along with the Bucks. He would talk to his dad often to make sure they had the weekly sports lineup in order. He always said, “You can’t trust a man that does not watch sports.” He also enjoyed spending hours sitting on a bank, throwing a fishing pole, always giving the fish away.
Terry fought a courageous fight for many years, he was called home on September 19, 2024 with family by his side. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Sharon Shaw, daughter Nyah Mallory and grandson Boston Reed both of Milwaukee, WI, his father Presley Shaw Jr of Milwaukee, WI, his step-sister Tanya Gentry of Phoenix, AZ and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Terry was preceded in death by his mother Mai Helen, grandfathers Presley Shaw Sr. and Fred Rogers, grandmothers, Lizzie Rogers and Dematric Shaw.
Terry leaves behind a rich legacy, with love, laughter, and an enduring message about the importance of cherishing every moment. His life was an example to the power of treating people with kindness and compassion, reminding all who knew him to hold dear to the time we have on this earth, with one another.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
