Sophia Suminski (nee Kogut)
Sophia died peacefully, February 21, 2025, after a life well lived. A devoted wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, she’ll be missed by family and friends. Sophia is survived by children Jill (Jim) Wittig, Jon (Donna) Suminski, Jane Suminski, Judy (Roman) Chamulak and Jean (Joe) Davies, grandchildren Peter (Natalee), Meghan, Noah (Rachel), Sophia, Nadia and great-grandson Sawyer. Also survived by sister in laws, Pat and Carol Suminski.
For Sophie, family was everything. She was the proud mother of her children, Jill, Jon, Jane, Judy & Jean, also known as the 5 J’s. She and her first husband Pete owned and operated “Pete’s Tap”, a corner bar located on the Southside of Milwaukee for over 25 years where she formed countless friendships.
Always social, and always a planner, Sophie enjoyed time with her “Church Lady Friends” at their bi monthly luncheon. A tradition she hopes will continue through the years.
She enjoyed travel, playing Scrabble and Cribbage and spending time with family and friends. Extremely proud of her Polish Heritage, and her maiden name Kogut, which means “Rooster”, she collected roosters and cardinals – and has shared both with many throughout the past few years.
The countless greeting cards she sent, her quick wit and loving heart will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Her light shines within all of us.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Peter Suminski and Henry Weinstock, sisters Evelyn and MaryAnn, parents, Ignatz and Katherine; as well as countless relatives and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Dorneanu, Dr. Khraisat and “Nurse Lisa” for the kindness, compassion and care they have provided Sophia over the years. Our deepest gratitude to the Dr. Belani and the entire ICU Staff at St. Luke’s South Shore for the kindness extended to Sophia and her family in her final days.
