Shirley Ann (Lockman) Schulz, age 90, of Milwaukee, WI died peacefully on November 3, 2024 at The Woods Assisted Living in Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her husband John of 49 years. Wonderful mom of Kathleen (Scott) Kietzke and John (Debi) Schulz. Cherished grandma of Kalli (Alex) Winkelman, Alexander and Elise Schulz. Further survived by her sister Eleanor (Krisher) Moran of DeForest, nieces, nephews and special friends. Preceded in death by her brother Francis Lockman.
Shirley was born December 7, 1933 to Everett and Louise Lockman growing up on a farm in DeForest. She graduated high school at age 17 in 1951 and went to work at Wisconsin National Bank in Madison. Eager to see the country, she hitched a ride to California with a girlfriend, rented an apartment and secured a job at Kress Dime Store, then at Hollywood State Bank. She celebrated her 18th birthday there and went to the Rose Bowl Parade.
She returned to Madison in 1952 on the Greyhound bus and went to work at Bank of Madison. She moved into an apartment with four girls and the five of them became lifelong friends through marriage and children, taking turns hosting annual summer picnics.
Shirley moved to Milwaukee in 1956, and found three new roommates, one who had a boyfriend with a best friend named John! Shirley and John were married on her 24th birthday in December 1959. While John served two years in the army, she worked at American State Bank in downtown Milwaukee.
As a homemaker, raising two children and welcoming three grandchildren, she also enjoyed sewing, and baking. When the adventurous spirit returned, she took several wonderful trips to see family and friends in San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Arkansas.
Special thanks to Brighton Hospice and the caring staff and residents at The Woods Assisted Living Community in Greenfield.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 PM. Private burial at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in New Berlin, Wisconsin on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
